https://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/...y-county-ipswich-blackpool-league-one-5130418 Dunno where he lives, but can it really be that much closer to home being at us not Blackpool. There is only an hour between the two places.
Yep Keogh was only a passenger and got sacked .. as you say the other 2 caused it but were young highly rated and had resale values and didn’t
The car crash was shameful for Derby in how they responded and Tom Lawrence for driving over the limit. Richard Keogh’s only fault lay in getting in a car with someone driving over the limit and he claims that he didn’t know. Seems a decent appointment but the key to the season will be what they have to work with. At least he wasn’t unveiled as player coach!
Old Crazy Horse. He’s a right bloke. Played alongside the missus’ lad at Derby for years. Top, top character. Really surprised he’s been lured here. Good old Conor. No messing around. Harban is Barnsley through and through and Ed Davies is a wonderful kid. Very clever. Nice to see. Good luck to Steady in his next endeavour.
Not sure how he is as a coach, but nearly 800 career appearances has got to count for something. Welcome aboard, Richard.
Good luck to Jon Stead. Always struck me as a decent bloke, even back in his playing days. Real shame we never got to see him play in a Barnsley shirt. There were at least two occasions it seemed like we might sign him. I don't know the qualities of those in the new set-up or how successful they'll be, but I do think a big change was needed. I've seen very little improvement in individual performances or as a collective over the last few seasons. And it looks like it's Conor who has assembled his team which I believe is the right way to go. I don't think there's a great deal of quality in the squad, and even those that have some quality also have severe weaknesses in their game, and I don't think we'll be able to get a lot of quality in. But if you have a good coaching team that build a solid defensive foundation and adopt a system that plays to the strengths of the squad then you can be successful in this league. In the Premier League and even the Championship, you need money to get the best players if you want any sort of success. In League 1 a good coaching team can be up amongst the front runners with pretty average players.
I’d agree with this. I don’t know Keogh - but he’s always been the type of defender you’d want at the club. Bags of playing experience too. So a good thing to have him in coaching. Ed Davies I think is top level as well - seen quite a bit of his work. Harban is a Barnsley lad and worked hard. Conor is no mug, and these are his choices. So fair play - and I’m happy with them too. Be interesting to see who is GK coach.
New coaching team a bit light on experience and Hourihane/ Harban were unimpressive last season but good luck to them
Keogh certainly knew how to organise a defence as a player, proper solid pro. Hope that transfers to his coaching.
Also have we brought in a new fitness coach, someone who knows what they're doing so these players aren't blowing after 55 minutes.
I agree. I'm not sure where the direct criticism of our set pieces is coming from to be honest. I can remember at least 4 off the top of my head where we've performed some sort of "routine" from a set piece and scored. Seems to me like it's a remnant of the "let's just moan at absolutely everything" mentality. Hourihane was set piece coach, we must knock Hourihane choose what, therefore the set pieces were cr*p. They objectively were not.
