On 8th July 2011 a blue plaque was unveiled at 22 Great Stone Rd Stretford, a boardig lodgings where Man Utds un married footballers used to lodge in the 50's. The plaque is sponsored by Stretford High School The plaque was unveiled by Dickie Bird who used to hang about with him at School.
After further investigation it appears there is a plaque on nudgers bridge unveiled by Prince Edward last October
In 1939 he was seven years old and lived with his parents and five siblings at 4 Quarry Street, Smithies. If anyone wants to find other addresses they may have lived at it probably needs a visit to Barnsley library to view the electoral rolls for the time ( if they still exist) His Father was Charles J Taylor, his Mother Violet. At the time of his death they lived on St Helen's Avenue.
My Dad lived there. Tommy's Dad used to visit and apparently did so just after he died in Munich. Sat and cried at the kitchen table.
Or if you have paid access to Ancestry you can look them up there. I did a couple of months ago whilst looking for bits and bobs for my Dad's funeral. Really good if you don't mind paying £15 or so.
