Gerrard would have left if not for death threats though, let's be honest. The Liverpool fans who are giving the lad stick are ridiculous. He has every right. He cost them nothing, won everything, played hundreds and hundreds of games, at times bring a world class forward thinking player, maybe not so much defensively. But when they mention him going on a free... how much money has not only earnt them with his performances, but how much has he saved them over the years? They should be nothing but grateful towards the lad.
Difference with Madrid though, their bad states will probably last a season, this season. Possibly next. Over the past 15 years the amount of times they've won the champions league without being the best team and being battered performance wise is incredible. They just have that ability.
I’ve never really bought the death threats thing. I think it was a load of ******** personally. No one’s killing anyone over a football transfer. He’s been incredible. I think he’s still massively under rated. You look on here & you see people saying he can’t defend. It’s just nonsense. You don’t get 90+ points in the league several times & reach 3 champions league finals with defenders who can’t defend.
I dont think anyone would have killed him either mate, but I dont doubt he received threats. Imagine if it happened this day and age with the cesspool called twitter! Yeah, hes a tremendous player. Properly world class going forward. You are right about people going to far with his defensive side of things, he isn't world class in that department, but he's nowhere near as bad as people make out. Even if he was a poor defender, he makes up for it ten fold with how good he is going in the opposite direction
An integral part of two league championship teams and a champions league winning team. Who cost them only his wages and the comparative peanuts it costs to bring players through academies compared to fees they’d have to pay. Liverpool chose to let it run into the last season. They got away with it with Van Dijk and Salah; Trent is well within his rights to go and look at another club and culture. He’s in a massive bubble, never lived outside his home city. You can’t blame him. They’re calling him greedy - but I bet Real aren’t paying him much if anything more than he was offered to stay. It clearly isn’t about money. He owes Liverpool and their fans nothing. His performances on the field and successes he’s been part of are more than compensation for their investment in him. If Van Dijk had left he’d have been given a hero’s goodbye. He didn’t come through the academy of course - but he did cost them £75million in initial fee and would also have gone for nothing. They should have got TAA on a better deal two years ago or sold him then if the loss of him for free is hurting them so much. The fans ought to redirect their ire to the club. No other top club in Europe has their biggest talents go into their last year of a contract without making them a new offer - if they actually want to keep them.
I think they're more angry at the fact Real Madrid seem to be speaking to players prior and agreeing that they'll only be willing to sign them on a free after their contracts run down. Liverpool would've only been aware of his decision for 6 months at the most. This makes sense from trents perspective too because instead of liverpool getting the money he can take a massive signing on fee and even higher wages. For a player who is a home grown and world class and couldve become a legend i can definitely see why Liverpool fans would dislike him, if he had less of an ego im sure he would've looked out for `his` club a bit more instead of getting tapped up
I believe that Gerrard was going to Chelsea during his prime but changed his mind due to death threats made to him and his family.
