Just seen an interesting stat about him, no one won more Ariel duals than him, no defender played more key passes than him, no defender reached a higher ranking per game than him. assuming this is based on league 2 alone, but that’s remarkable. Hopefully we don’t sell him, he could be absolutely vital to us next season.
It would be bonkers if we did sell him and I can’t work out why there’s quite a few on here that seem convinced he will be sold. Unless it’s an absolutely ridiculous offer, which it won’t be, no way should he be sold. Imagine if we were after one of the top defenders from league 2, who has just secured promotion from the division, we’d be looking forward to them being in our squad and seeing what he’s about. He will be in our match day squad come August.
From this, it sounds as though he will be in our plans, though how Mladen words it, it's Conor's decision to make. https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...pressive-2024-25-season-in-league-two-5104603
I’ve been a season ticket holder at Barnsley for over 50 years even though I have lived in Bradford for nearly that amount of time as well. I have an affinity with Bradford as I was living here at the time of the stadium fire in the 80’s , however nothing can break my childhood/ early teens passion for following the Reds. I have many friends who are Bradford supporters and to a man they really rate Jack Shepherd. I really hope that our board recognise how he has developed and ensure that he is utilised in our First team next season and don’t simply opt to sell him for peanuts…….. Though who knows with our recruitment staff!
Can't see us selling him unless we got a big offer from say Luton who have parachute payments. He won't be on as much as Roberts, mdg or earl infact he will probably be our lowest paid defender as we signed him from ponty colliers. We need some changes to the defence but I'd give him a chance next season.
Is that like a duel where the weapons of choice are Ariel wash pods, or large packets of wash powder?
I lived in Wyke for years 70s thru the 80s, enjoyed it, but my mother who's from barnsley wanted to come home, been here ever since
All this talk on here. BBS.. (Not so much this thread) Of him possibly going to Bradford. No chance imo. We brought him to the club to develop. (Although I thought he would have been a valuable squad player) He's done that at Bradford. As did kane at Oxford. As did Styles at Bury. He's our player, and pretty sure he'll have enjoyed his time at Bradford. But we hold all the cards and I don't think he'll be unhappy if given the opportunity to play for us.
I saw summat in him at Wigan. When he was imo, motm for us. play like that on a regular basis and we have a very good player on our hands.
Agreed. There is a parallel to draw on. There was a player in L2 last year rated around £750k. Helped get his team up to L1 and they held out for a million. On that basis we should stick to our guns too (should City make a bid). I certainly think we've toughened up on that front.
Absolutely no point selling him (unless a daft offer comes in) he’s proven himself in league 2 & I can guarantee if we did sell his replacement would have less experience than him. It’s a no brainer to make him our starting centre back next season. Gives us chance to focus on other areas of the pitch in terms of incomings.
Yeah I agree. I’d like to think the offer we would accept for Shepherd wouldn’t be made by Bradford or the majority of teams in league 1 next season.
Our best recent recruitment as been getting the top players from the league below, Conor, winall, DKD etc. The fact Shepherd is ours and coming back after being one of the best CBs in L2 it's brilliant. For sure should be kept unless a silly offer comes in from Bradford or elsewhere.
City can't afford to buy him. Another year with us and his stock hopefully will rise. We have an option to extend to 2027.
Agreed. I said "if they made a bid". Which I doubt they will. They'd be daft to blow their entire budget on one defender.
