So I'm having this debate with my Liverpool supporting friend.

He says Mo Salah is better than Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Luis Suarez and Wayne Rooney (in the premier league)

I totally disagree on every single point.

I even added that Eden Hazard was better than Mo Salah & the majority of pundits agree.

Stats say Salah is a better goalscorer than Rooney. 183 PL goals (same as Rooney) in 100 fewer games & more international goals, in fewer games. Plus Rooney had some world class players round him, Salah has had... Firmino, Diaz and Gakpo. Mane at one point, but not the level of Tevez, Ronaldo, Scholes etc. who I think made Rooney look a lot better than he was. You only had to look at his general England performances to realise he wasn't world class. The media bulled him up a lot too, whereas Salah, not so much.

So he could have a point.

Completely disagree. Rooney was world class. And so is Salah.

There's not a chance hes better than Henry was. Suarez had one of the best individual seasons ever - and take a look who he was surrounded by. I was young been shearer was in his prime so hard for me to opine on that. Probably would say he's been better than Drogba, although if you compare big games, Drogba wipes the floor with Salah. Ronaldo was excellent in the final 2 seasons here. Incredible. All debatable.

Also, id say the calibre of defenders was much higher back then. How many teams do we see now conceding when pissing around at the back, smaller physical defenders, but more technical

I’d have Salah over most of them.

Henry is the best of the premier league era in my opinion.

I don’t feel like Ronaldo & Suarez can be ranked that highly because they didn't spend enough time in the league. I think they needed to perform like they did for another 2 or 3 seasons in our league.

Hazard is one of the most over rated players to play in the premier league in my opinion. I’ve never got it with him. I don’t think he’s in the same class as the others mentioned. The league he won with Chelsea was built on a sold defence & the signing of Kante.

    All opinions.

Henry was the best player ever to grace the Premier league. In my opinion at his peak for Arsenal he was the best player in the world. Shearer's record speaks for itself. After that I would put Salah on a par with the rest with Suarez just making the list.

    Salah is right up there.
Hard to compare in some ways with how the game has changed into this horrible Pep influenced bordem.

Henry in that Araenal team was the bewt I have ever seen.

You lost me at the point you argued Eden Hazard was better.

They are all different players. Some strikers some wider, some deeper.

In terms of individual success, Salah is up there. He’s also won multiple medals at a club which had struggled to win the top major honours for decades.

I’m not saying he’s top of that list. Henry I think is the top of that shop. Drogba and Shearer were out and out nines but don’t have as good a goalscoring record (rate rather than total in Shearer’s case) as someone who is in effect a winger. They did a different job though and it’s a scary proposition thinking of if he’d played with them as the nine rather than Bobby Firmino or Darwin Nunez…

But he’s nowhere near the bottom of that list either. You can’t argue with his consistent goal involvements and success at his club.

Some of those are weird comparisons due to positions and time spent in the premier league.

I don’t think anyone can argue against Salah’s stats.

I'd have Henry and Shearer over him, Henry was pure class and Shearer had a better all round game scoring goals in teams comparatively poorer than the others, besides what he scored at the top.

As a side note, if we remove penalties and go for the top 10 Premier League goal scorers by ratio this is the top 10.

    1.Shearer
    2. Cole
    3. Rooney
    4. Kane
    5. Aguero
    6. Henry
    7. Salah
    8.Ferdinand
    9.Defoe
    10. Fowler

Not sure that proves anything I was just curious so looked it up, always had a thing about penalties padding some people records. (This list probably proves me wrong)
Additional I am aware football did not start in 1992, however stats are harder to find that cover all of football history.

Agree henry number 1. Hard to compare shearer with salah as out and out striker. I compare salah with henry and hazard all like inside forwards. Henry no1 salah no2. Salah is better than hazard

Thierry Henry, Alan Shearer, Mo Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez, Didier Drogba.

Eden Hazard in terms of he's more of a joy to watch than Mo Salah.

Hazard went past players like they weren't there.

    90% of pundits agree.

    Eden Hazard stats for Chelsea

    App 352
    Goals 110
    Assists 88

    Definitely over rated.

    Ninety percent of pundits?

You’ve definitely not made that number up…

I was just browsing the ‘who thinks Hazard was better than Salah’ page on www.everyfootballpunditintheworld.com

I’ll tell you of a former top player who has done some punditry since retiring a couple of years ago who insists Salah is ‘by far’ better than Eden Hazard.

That pundit’s name is Eden Hazard. And don’t mistake it for modesty. This is the same fella who described himself as the best player in the world when at Real Madrid (seven goals and twelve assists in four years - all comps).

He has superior technical ability in some respects I’ll concede that - but your ‘joy to watch’ (I don’t fully disagree), will be ‘annoyingly wasteful’ to another watcher. Technical ability isn’t the be all and end all. Jermaine Jenas was a better technical footballer than both Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.

Eden Hazard is probably a better technical footballer than Cristiano Ronaldo too.

My order, based on what they did in the PL, is

    1. Henry
    2. Shearer
    3. Salah
    4. Drogba
    5. Rooney
    6. Suarez
    7. Ronaldo

Hazard isn't even in the conversation. I think I'd have to put Aguero in there too, probably in-between Salah and Drogba.

Henry is far and away the best striker to have played in the PL.

When I say over rated I’m not saying he’s a poor player or anything ridiculous like that.

I just don’t consider him as one of the premier league greats. I think he’s in the bracket below & I don’t think there’s any comparison with him & Salah for example.

    Nah

    Henry
    Ronaldo
    Then Salah

    For me.

Can't compare him with Rooney as Rooney was 1 of a kind and ended up being wasted towards his late 20s

He's better than hazard. Very similar and direct but goals to back him up.

But yet again as a poster above stated. Defenders were better in the past.
