Great job keeping Oxford up, reckons Helik is the best Jan signing he's ever made, Huddersfield certainly felt his loss.
I think Michael Sollbauer was one of our best ever Jan signings massively improved Mads and Helik in his time with us, we'd have been down without his influence, superb defender.
Brilliant player. Proper defender with a subtle touch of class and an eye for goal. Great mentality and puts his body where it hurts.
One of the best CH’s we’ve had in the last 20 years up with Mawson, Pinnock, Sollbauer and him we had on loan from Newcastle name escapes me, edit Peter Ramage
The Huddersfield fans on social media were calling it a sideways step at the time. Doesn't look so sideways now.
Very good at that level. I wonder how much Udders paid for him. ? (And afore wisecracks reply. I'm aware undisclosed lol )
I wouldn’t mind one or two absolute fannies like him in and around the squad now… A defender who can defend, communicate, organise a backline and be a threat from free kicks and corners at the other end. But yeah let’s castigate him for losing heart at times when he was playing in a team surrounded by folk with no balls, no desire, and managed by the worst two head coaches we’ve probably ever had.
I thought Helik was ok, but he was painfully slow and got done a number of times being out of position. He blossomed under Ismaels style where all he had to do was run to the half way line or head it. To the point where some had expectation of a huge fee to the PL. That obviously never materialised given his obvious flaws. Don't get me wrong, I'd have him in our current defence ever day of the week, but I doubt he'd make a list of our top 30 centre halves. And as SD touched on. He tanked a number of times in our doomed relegation season and I struggle to ever forgive that.
I’ve got to say I had a season ticket in the relegation season & watched most away games & I can’t ever remember questioning Helik’s commitment. If there were just one or two isolated incidents that you can remember have you considered he might have had a knock or even playing through injury? He’s always struck me as a give it your all type player.
Good defender on par with Roberts, I'd say. Solid top League 1, mid Champ centre half, but needs a gobby "marshall" (Sollbauer) at the side of him
Huddersfield went downhill after selling him. It was their modern day Marcus Stewart moment when they sold him to Ipswich halfway through the season, when going for promotion to the Premier League.
Not sure Pal, we've had some fantastic defenders at Oakwell Big mick, Tiler, Taggart, Shotton, Davis, De Zeeuw, Pinnock, Mads, Helik etc the list is endless and they rightly get the recognition they deserve, but for the very short time he was with us I thought Sollbauer's impact was magnificent.
