Yes, do a YouTube channel. The few games on which you commentated I thought were perfectly pitched. Dry, funny, world weary... exactly what is required from a long suffering football fan of a provincial club. There's a huge gap in the market for those of us who have no interest in ranting and raving, can accept that we're far more likely to be unsuccessful in any given season, recognise the futility and ridiculousness of it all, and like that washed down with an analysis dripping in irony.
Plenty room for more BFC content, I'm currently subscribed to all the BFC related youtube channels i know of plus knappers.
I don't know if this is the same but for what it's worth go with your gut feeling. As you know I have a YouTube channel for old/classic Reds footage what you might also notice is that I haven't posted anything for a while. There are a lot of reasons for this but the biggest one is that I've lost my mojo for want of a better phrase. When I started archiving footage David Wood suggested looking for a way to distribute the footage for all to see and that was my goal to eventually have all available footage free for everyone thus the youtube channel was born. I've loved/still love being able to put something up to get people's memories and opinions on a particular piece of footage or discovering something rare. I really can't get enough of listening to people talk about BFC history. I've stacks of stuff ready to upload some good some not so good and some stunning and rare bits I just need a massive kick up the proverbial! Apologies YT if this is not appropriate to your thoughts. I've been on a "I'll do it tomorrow" for a while now. So do it pal.
I enjoyed your previous podcasts so I'll look forward to your next contributions! Bonne continuation!
Your footage is like gold dust, pal. And I’ve spent countless hours of my life watching it. I’m massive on the history of our club. You mention Dave Wood and he was an absolute pleasure to have as a guide on occasion whilst in the job. Without his ridiculous graft the likes of the Alumni and HOF would never have seen the light of day. I’d often ask him for info on players who’d sadly passed away, so that I got the obituary spot on. Just a really nice bloke who cared passionately for the club and never asked for anything in return. I remember having a few drinks with him and Ben Mosley some years ago, the artist. It was around the time of the HOF launch and Ben had painted so many pieces to support it. Again, off his own back, out of a shared love for the club. If you have the time and desire to do it, I’m sure most on this forum would like to see more archival footage.
That’s the one. Wombwell main! I regularly feature on those videos, I’d let you decide which ‘character’ i am. YT. Go for it, I’m sure you’ll get support from this board.
Shame HOF didn't carry on and now you've moved on the Alumni seems to have stopped. Both were great projects that need to be resurrected.
Do it YT but not at the expense of your mental health, having read your very personal journey about leaving BFC then make sure you aren't bitting off more hassle and stress etc (no*head comments and all that goes with it)if you aren't then fine go for it, just like anything though, if it begins to consume you then it stops being fun.
Yeah, yours and the post from Neil (@icer) are similar to one or two texts I got last night from concerned friends. I don’t really do social media and they’ve warned me it’s more toxic than it’s ever been and to be very careful putting myself out there to be shot at. So I appreciate your advice. Lots to ponder. I hope to come up with something in the summer but it needs to be niche and to sit in a unique space. I’ve no interest in negativity and I see no point in doing my own version of something that’s already out there. Again, thanks to those who responded.
Tbh mate, I'd even consider charging a small subscription, it might sound ludicrous but a couple of quid a month (A) cuts down on the random abuse from other clubs fans (B) justifies your time and effort that goes into it, making it feel more worthwhile.
I'd watch it. We have lost all interesting socials. Things hit a high watermark in lock down. Now, I'm struggling to take interest in much.
Yeah. I run a DJ agency. Still DJ. Occasionally do podcasts too, but not done any for 2 years. Last one was a punk thing.
Love a bit of punk, wasn't meaning to be nosey just with you saying you had struggled to do much last couple of years, hoped it was keeping you busy and keeping your spirits up, music can definitely make a difference, unless it's boy band stuff
I really think you will create some great content and I think there is always room for this. Good luck with moving this project forward.
I make a decent living out of it. What I do is very diverse. Music is my life. It's hard to categorise.
I think an alternative look at the Reds would be a good idea. There are enough "I've just a Barnsley bloke, this is what I think, I call a spade a spade" type blogs out there, and that's fine, but the market is saturated. It could do with something a bit more erudite, a bit more informed and maybe with some more WSB style wit.
