Can anyone still defend this useless excuse of a player? No doubt someone will but I’m lost for words if they can. We gave the bloke a 3, potentially 4 year contract. Truly mind boggling. Be amazed if he gets another contract in the professional game.
We shouldn't have signed him after we'd seen him on loan. We didn't sign a striker But we've got Max Watters xG is all that matters
He can have the highest xG there is but the bloke just won’t score actual goals, which is all that matters. Had one purple patch with Crawley in L2 about 4 years ago and is making a good living from the game. Absolutely useless….makes Dave Regis look like Jimmy Greaves.
Disappointingly he has one more year to run on his contract and there is an optional 12 month extension in the club's favour. I can't see any potential suiters paying a transfer fee for him in the summer unless we can agree a severance package to get him out of he club but we're skint so that's unlikely!
That sending off at home to Port Vale during his loan spell just about summed him up. I'm sure Khaled's parting shot was to offer him a 3 year deal at the end of that season
Whoever does recruiting for us is hamstrung by a squad that as been unbalanced for years in terms of player capability and contract terms and as been since the time of Olare and Iseka. Since then then its been a long list of poor recruits with the odd good un thrown in but the unbalanced squad remains. The current incumbent is getting a lot of stick but his predecessor is also to blame.
He runs about a lot but unfortunately for him will never get enough goals to be a striker. Not going to slag him off personally, he tries but time has certainly proved a goal scorer he’s not.
Absolutely awful in front of goal, which is not good for a striker. Offering him a contract after that loan spell baffled me at the time and still does.
I'll say it again no matter who disagrees, in my opinion, if Marsh had been afforded the same time as Watters has, then we would have been reaping the rewards by now. Both Marsh and Matty Wolfe have cause for complaint with how they've been treated, and no doubt a few more. In Wolfes case broken promises on the clubs side.
Unfortunately, it's the downside of a long contract. Just like when us fans moan about losing great players, it's always a risk that players wont be great & we're stuck with them. Hence why I never got on at Cryne for 2 year contracts etc. I like Watters, but just can't seem to get into good form for us. He had a decent record for his age before coming on loan, his minutes per goal was decent so we had hopes when he wasnt injured he'd come good, but unfortunately it's just not happening. He can spread the game and make runs, but at the minute, that's not just what we need. We need that & a finisher, someone who can hold the ball up to a decent standard. But ultimately, just like at Bristol Rovers a couple of months back where he should have bagged at least a hattrick, 4 for any decent finisher, he should have had more today. We need improvements.
What do you mean broken promises mate? (genuine question btw, I don't know what he was promised) He was getting good game time until his injury. Then when returned we had Kane, Connell, Phillips, Russell etc, even Yoganathan who I rate highly. Edit - in the championship Wolfe actually looked very good.
I don’t dislike Watters. I think he works fairly hard, and I appreciate it. He’s probably lacking a bit of confidence, and could do with some mentoring from Stead to improve the consistency of his finishing. There’s certainly worse.
Apparently really good in training, you never know maybe next year, i doubt we'll get rid so it looks like whatever your opinion of the lad is, he's staying.
