Thing is, if he succeeds, if he gets a good offer to progress elsewhere, he'll go. I guess that's why the emotion isn't there for me. He'll do his best for us while he's here... No doubt, but if he fails he'll be sacked, if he succeeds he'll be poached.

If he's going to succeed he'll need to be pragmatic and not emotional. He'll have adversity here, that's for sure. If he's gun hoe like Clarke he'll come a cropper. Not just with the board but the players. Happy to wait and see. No personal attachment to the guy though.

The interview I heard thought he was a bit tetchy particularly when referring to Disco and possible replacements

Tbh mate I'm only worried about the hear and now, I'm not looking at the what ifs etc, if he's also done well it means we will have done well too, I'm not worrying about the uncontrollables but you can't deny his passion and love fir the club through fear of leaving.
Every successful manager we've had has left, didn't stop my liking of them.

    Long way to go yet

I think we all thought some sort of reset was needed. Lets hope Conor has the right backing and ability to do that and brings in the right assistant. I hope he can inflict his hunger to succeed on the players. I like what Im hearing though.

“I'm comfortable with the budget, if I'm being honest. I think in terms of the fans, and in terms of what they're hoping for — like "we're going to get Birmingham City money" and all that kind of stuff — it's not going to be the case.”

‘We’re not going to do anything crazy’ -
I can fully understand Conway saying that. They’d just taken ownership and the mention of ‘billionaires’ was getting a lot of people giddy with expectation. It served as a statement of intent, or lack thereof.

I don’t think it’s necessary for Neerav, and now Conor to roll this stuff out. We know we’re not going to spend that kind of money, but let’s not use that as an excuse to be mediocre.

Last season we had a top 6 budget and top 6 wage bill so 12th was a massive under achievement more down to poor recruitment though imo.

Would love to hear from anyone who thinks we'll have a Birmingham city budget.

I hope he does such a fantastic job that both Villa and Derby come calling for him as their manager…..but then he turns them down because he wants to get us up to the PL.

Not many definitive answers there. But clearly Conor is still thinking through his approach to the role, which may be no bad thing. The definite answer was that we won't have a Birmingham-style budget. That may not surprise folks!

Perhaps the most interesting answer was in regard to motivation, and the emphasis on the players finding it from within themselves. This is arguably a modern view of management - that your role as a manager is to create the environment for those you manage to give of their best. Contrast with old-style 'shouters' like Fergie - who were successful in their day. I wonder if Conor's approach emulates that of someone like Eddie Howe?

You see it a lot around the transfer window though. People saying “get your hand in your pocket and pay what they want” etc. when sometimes it’s just not feasible.
