11 defenders and not one that's good enough to be a regular starter for a league one side looking to be promoted. We've serious work to do with defensive ins and outs this summer.
I wouldn’t care if none of the defenders are at the club come start of next season. Those out on loan not included.
If Bradford go up which I think they will, can see an offer being accepted for Shepherd, we will be desperate for transfer fees.
Try and move on one of the 3 right backs on that list and also loan out Gent who i feel is a little lightweight and not quite ready for league 1. Bradford may look to make Shepherd's loan move permanent. We need to experience of Roberts at the club. Lopata may be given the chance to prove himself after a season away on loan and the same could be said of Lofthouse. Having had 5 different goalkeepers during the season hasn't helped the defence.
I don’t think they will pay the asking price, if they rate him so highly, we should be asking and getting around £3 million plus add-ons and sell-ons. We’ll see but really hoping he’s a regular in our ‘new look’ defence.
There isn't a world in any universe that a player with 21 games at L1 level and 12 months left on his contract is commanding a fee of 3m, be around 500k mark give or take.
This doesn't get mentioned enough. The management of the goalkeeping situation is the worst I've ever seen at Oakwell. Even worse than the Mike Pollit debacle. How on earth we've ended up with 5 different keepers between the sticks is beyond me, and none of them have looked any good. A decent keeper must be the first signing of the summer.
He signed a 2+1 contract prior to joining Bradford on loan. There’s also no world in any universe where Bradford can afford to spend even £500,000 on one player. I fully expect him to be a part of BFC’s first team setup next season. Especially if we are saying goodbye to both McCarthy and Pines.
Then they can’t rate him highly enough then. Other clubs will have been alerted to him as well. That’s if he has been as good as what we’ve been reading and hearing. Think you need to look up his contract details with as per YT’s post before being so sure of his value.
Just don't see it Andy, he's enjoyed his football there, their fans love him, given the opportunity between Bradford and us, if a bid materialised he'd choose Bradford. If its not screwed down this summer it's getting sold to generate revenue.
Does he get to choose just because a bid has come in? You make too many assumptions. As I said, if he’s been that good, other clubs will be alerted and a bidding war could ensue. Alternatively it could all be Forum speak and he’ll come back here and hopefully have a great season with us.
My mistake on the contract, but the point stands, Jack Shepherd isn't a 3m defender, there isn't that money in the market, if you look at historical values from the past 2/3 windows for centre backs his age/experience you are miles off on your valuation.
Not in the slightest. And, as you’ve been a fan for a long time I would have thought you would have been immune to the vagaries of supporting a lower league side who has been through various iterations of ambition. And not go off on one every time we don’t get a result.
That's irrelevant really like someone's said if he's under contract they're going to have to pay for him and they don't have the money. This reminds me of kyran Lofthouse, great for mk Dons last season in league 2 came back here did nothing.
As others have said, Bradford look like a club on the rise and are playing in front of 20k fans every home game. If Shepherd has a choice between that and 7k in a morgue like Oakwell I think I know which he'd pick. He's also a guaranteed starter for Bradford. All depends on a fee I suppose but reckon we'd take £300k or so with a sell on included. As you say, we're desperate for the revenue.
Lofthouse has been great for Burton too in L1. Wouldn't be surprised if they take him on a permanent this summer. Played in midfield most of the time too. Might have done a job in a holding roll with Connell next season.
