Is there a link? Can only find the story about the previous Pope - Pope Benedict. Not only spoke about it but toughened up the laws

I certainly see your point. I think some people are making comments about him based on the sexual abuse stuff. I can see that some of that criticism is valid although he did tighten the rules up and encourage whistleblowers I believe. I'm not a religious bloke at all, but if the Catholic church exists and has a Pope then on balance and compared to all the other Popes I dont think Francis seems like a bad guy. He's done some decent stuff and tried to send humanitarian messages out to the catholic community. That's the main thing Popes do - they try to give guidance. Could he have been better? Course he could - he was a human. However, like you I don't see the need for this total lambasting. It looks disproportionate to me.
Imagine the situation when Donald Trump pops his clogs however.....if people slag him off Ill join in.

If religion doesn't want to be mocked it shouldn't be so ridiculous!
You're right the pope is a man of much significance. But why?
Well, The Pope leads the Catholic Church and is seen as St Peter’s successor, giving him authority over its 1.4 billion followers. Catholics believe this connects him directly to Jesus Christ, making him a key source of spiritual guidance.

I'm mean that's crazy right? If one on my relatives believed they had a direct connection with someone who died 2000 years ago I'd be trying to get them a mental health assessment.

Moreover as the head of the Catholic Church, inevitably the Pope will be held accountable for the actions of the Church and its employees. I don't even want to go into the full extent of misery that is spread into the world by the Church.
In summary I would say if you use threats of hell to try and impose moral authority on society while covering up child rape (alleged) you're in for some backlash.

The whole thing is so ridiculously absurd that mockery may be all a rational person can do, perhaps it truly is a laugh or cry situation when faced with such levels of human stupidity.

Your first exhibit says that Pope Francis was misquoted and your second has nothing to do with Catholics.

So there would appear to be no basis for your "unusually high proportion" comment.

Not that religious tbh but if someone wants to believe in it that's upto them. Same as if someone wants to identify as something elee, that's upto them. I know religion upsets the lgbtq population and i remeber a famous Catholic boxer been called homophobic for quoting a piece from the bible. I've often read your post on religious stuff and you come across as anti religion. Judith chalmers is right some of the comments on here are abit poor but was the same when the queen died on here.

There is nothing wrong with a discussion about paedophilia and the Church - but I don't think that now is the time for such a discussion.
I find your post deeply offensive - if you have any sense of decency you would remove it.

''Pope Francis, one of the more progressive pontiff's in the history of the Roman Catholic Church, died on Monday morning at the age of 88, the Vatican confirmed.

Francis’ willingness to take a more progressive stance on issues from LGBTQ rights to same-sex marriage to immigration make him one of the most progressive and influential popes of the modern era.''

I find the sexual assault of children by the catholic church to be deeply offensive. Shame you’re more bothered about words isn’t it.

Don't think all catholics are peados it looks like your imply that. Probably same percent of any religion but if you replaced catholics with Muslims it wouldn't go down too well and you'd be getting called racist.

Don’t worry it’s the most acceptable way to mock religion, as anti-Catholic bigotry has a long and proud history in Britain. Say anything about Islam though and people will call you racist.
Remember - Everything done wrong by catholics is as a result of their religion, anything done wrong by Muslims is done because that person was defective and has nothing to do with their religion.
Actually proper studies are few and far between, but the ones that have been done actually come up with a percentage of somewhere between 1% and 2% of Priests are or were child abusers. Which is in fact much smaller than in the general male population and also much smaller than say, school teachers, or radio one DJs by the looks of it. But don't let things like statistics gathered by academics through research get in the way of making stuff up. The bigger crime was those who covered up such activities - as they have done in ALL walks of life where people have access to children or vulnerable adults.

So, there are 1.4 billion Catholics in the world. How many are you accusing of paedophilia?

He compared a woman getting an abortion to hiring a hitman. So slightly better for the LGBTQ community, still absolutely awful for women.

With a bit of a hint of Yorkshire - "My grace is sufficient for thee".
