But he wasnt in charge then and he is now. Fridays result may be a blessing disguise for him if he uses the result effectively
I thought he needed 2 wins from 4 to earn the job after 1 win from 6. After defeat against Orient he needs 2 wins from 3 for me for there to be any kind of confidence behind him going into next season. One more win against an already relegated Shrewsbury won’t cut it he needs another win too. Let’s be honest here. If Stead was caretaker & had won 1 win in 7 we all know he wouldn’t have the job & wouldn’t be getting defended. It’s all about good vibes, past glories & being well media trained up to now. We all want Hourihane to be a success but we need to see something now. We can’t be hearing takes about how great he is in the dressing room & then watching goals where players aren’t even trying to track back.
What a wide range of emotions Conor must've felt on Friday. After twenty minutes of fast attacking football, and up 2-0, he'd be very elated, only to be then brought down and deflated by the second half capitulation. I did appreciate that he came over on his own at the very end to applaud those fans who were still there, after everyone else had left the field.
That's the only reason he's got the job. I bet JAQ's got posters of him all over her Malibu appartment.
Oh oh… “I certainly want to be here managing the club for the long-term moving forward” https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...t-pledge-plus-a-league-one-admission-5090977#
Long term in football is longer than 1 season. ‘exciting wingers’ and a ‘back four’ sounds encouraging though.
Only just picking this up and frankly, I find it an extraordinary appointment. It might work out, it might not. He certainly won't be here long. He's ruthless and ambitious, and I suspect his comments wanting to be here 'long term' will come to bite him. I wish him well, as with all coaches. If he does well, he'll be poached, if he doesn't (and Parekh tends to judge that as promotion) he'll be sacked. But the way they've got to this decision is laughable. I'd have had more respect for them if they'd appointed him outright after they sacked Clarke rather than wait for a single win to rush out a justification. Just very poor, again.
I agree about the timing of the appointment. However, more in a psychological sense. It's easier for a permanent manager to get a tune out players for 10 games than an interim one. Appointing him on an interim basis when they clearly were going to appoint him anyway p1ssed away what chances we had left of saving the season.
