I think one of the problems of donating is getting past the screening, the huge list of ailments people have to get past before giving. In the olden days you just gave it with no questions asked, providing you had some spare.

A vicar, a priest and a rabbit go to donate. The nurse asks what blood group they are. “I think I’m a typo” says the rabbit

Just given my 20th donation - try and give three times a year. They are asking me to donate platelets next - anyone else done that?

Probably A+? Males are more likely to be able to donate platelets.

I used to give blood but I’ve stopped now. Too many questions: “Whose blood is it?” “Where did you get it?” “Why is it in a bucket?”
That’s it for blood donation jokes.

If it wasn't for blood donors I wouldn't be here today. Bled out after severing a main artery last year... all the blood I got was from Manchester.

My blood goes to Manchester im o+cmv- which means it goes to new born and transplant patients. The o+ are common as muck but I've never had the cyclo mega virus which also is common as muck so makes it good for people with no immune system.

Really like the little message you get to tell you which hospital it has gone to - went to Sheffield last time. Made me chuckle someone from Sheffield has a pint of Barnsley's finest swilling around in side of them :)

This thread made me do a bit of research. I've been here since 1996, but have been unable to donate, due to CJD restrictions. Basically, if you lived in the UK during the eighties, you could be carrying the disease, so no donating. I see that the restriction was lifted in 2022.
