    Messi has played maybe half of his career as the right side of a forward three and the other half as a centre forward - I wouldn’t consider him an ‘out and out’ winger as was the question in the OP.

    The answer is likely Matthews or Best but of the ones I’ve seen - Giggs was consistent, Ginola was unplayable on his day.

    David Beckham was more what you’d call a right midfielder than winger maybe, certainly wasn’t a dribbler, but he was the finest crosser of a ball I’ve ever seen.

    Giggs played CM in last few years at United.

    Ginola CAM/CF too.

    When I was a lad, Waddle was special, Giggs of course, and obviously Bullock on his day at Oakwell.

    But Hammill will always be my favourite winger.

    According to Michael Parkinson Johnny Kelly is the reason we won the World Cup in 1966. Everytime Alf Ramsey, who played full back for Portsmouth, came up against Kelly he was 'had on toast' by the Barnsley winger. When Ramsey became a manager he hated wingers so much he devised 4-3-3, so that he could play a team without wingers.
