Didn't Humphrys get pulled down as the last man last week, and the ref only showed a yellow? Granted a bit further out, but "last man" and all that... Also, Flavell looked to have got the ball. Brum fans should make the most of these favours, the Champ refs aren't so bribable.
I didn’t think Flavell got the ball. Looked a penalty to me. I did think he’d missed the pen at first though. I guess Humphrys was further from goal than today. However, I still maintain the one today he wasn’t last man as Roberts was there. He also barely touched him. Why don’t these decisions happen in the box from corners and free kicks? Is it because there would be 5+ penalties a game? It’s exactly that.
A joke of a sending off. The ref could hardly contain himself showing the red card as quick as he did. His linesman should have intervened. And said." Tha needs to go to specsavers."
Seems funny the same Birmingham player gets a man sent off and gets a penalty, both decisions doubtful to say the least
That red card was ridiculous and the penalty looked dubious too, their player seemed to veer from the ball to make sure he hit the keeper to me.
He Won the penalty be making sure he caught Flavell I’d want it given to us but I’ve seen similar challenges on our forwards and penalty not given The red card a complete joke
I've been reading comments from Brum fans which are very complimentary about the quality of our football, despite the 6-2 scoreline. A fair number thought the red card was harsh. One Brum fan even described it as "scandalous". I saw the penalty decision referred to by another Brum fan as "50/50". I didn't see the game, and obviously 6-2 is a thrashing, but there must have been some positive points!
It’s ridiculous isn’t it. Every corner there are people wrestling each other to the floor, usually after the ref has told them not to do that. In fact, last season a ref in front of the Ponty twice delayed a corner to warn a defender about holding, only for said defender to basically rugby tackle the Reds player, and the ref just ignored it. It’s usually the defending team doing the holding, whilst the attacking team try to stand on the goalie’s toes. And the ref almost always just gives a free kick to the defending team, cos it’s easier that way. But how on earth have the officials let it build and build until every corner is like one of those battle royales they used to do on the wrestling?
Just looking again at the sending off....I'm thinking he has sent him off as he was last man....but thats not right as Robbo is literally 5 yards from the incident and more or less along side Mdg. There is no way it was dangerous because contact was minimal....so I'm as bemused as all of us as to why he brandished red...especially as we are only in the third minute...who gets sent off in that time line, it would have to be like a murder, bizarre.
The club should certainly demand an explanation from the League as, from the replays, it looks nothing of the sort https://x.com/ads0608/status/1908535142949224823?s=46
I've got to agree. I've just steeled myself to watch the "highlights". A very harsh decision. If luck evens itself out, we are due a few wins before the end of the season.
Just wow! The ref and the EFL need to look at that again....what on earth is the ref thinking?...other way round, I would call it too. Never, ever a sending off.
It’s a harsh sending off for sure. Especially with a covering defender so close. That said, MDG has once again let an opponent get goal side of him so easily. Not a sending off but the kind of poor defending we see from him all too often.
I can remember having a chat around Christmas time about MDG and someone quoting I liked him....and I said yea I do like him as a bloke and as a player, he has some football in him but he is never a defender in a million years. I think his best position would be a holding midfielder but he lacks pace. My dad always used to tell me when I would try critique players like him "you've been watching rubbish too long!"
It doesn't help our cause when Connor comes out and says it was a red' not quite sure what he saw though' it was boderline wether it was even a foul' he literally touched him with his finger' that Anderson was going down all the time' proper Tom daley.
