For me it's the Scunthorpe, Rochdale fans ect that deserve it, it's easy following a big club and they've not always been loyal.
Not sure I agree with that. I’d say it’s easy following a successful club, which they’re not by premier league standards. If they’re a big club, that’s in part due to their support. I get that they haven’t always had the crowds they currently get, or the capacity, but anyone under the age of around 25 won’t remember anything different, and even if you class some as ‘glory hunters’, they still have a lot of deserving fans that have watched them religiously with no reward, other than the odd promotion. http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/league/newu.htm
The League Cup is a major trophy. I'm sure if we ever win it in the very distant future we wouldn't regard it as a tinpot trophy lol, ill take jpt again
Oh good grief - READ MY POSTS! Not just the first one. I never said it was a tinpot trophy. I hate that word in fact.
I remember going up just as Keegan took over, they sang to us " what's it like to see a crowd" To which we replied " where were you two weeks ago, where were you two weeks ago"
Back in the day, I travelled home and away every week. Sadly, Newcastle fans were one of the few groups that I saw cause trouble on a frequent basis. Really quite bad after we bested them 1-0 at home from an O'Connell header.
They’ve had the odd season when they’ve had crowds below 20k, but if you look at that link I posted, they’ve always been well supported, and it’s local support as well, unlike Liverpool, Man United and a couple of others.
Cowards tried jumping a few of us at their place one year. Only teenagers, but a fair group of them. Didn’t end well for them as they ended up legging it with half a coach load in persuit. Back in the day they always stopped for a drink at Hemsworth en route to Oakwell. Transit vans full of the buggers.
