In all the threads re- yesterday's performance I note no reference to Barnsley's new striker. Along with his half time substitution to a left (or is it right) wingback, I assue this tells its own story of his contribution to the game. On a seperate note, although only watching the, extended, highlights it seems to me that in any contest for a ball , anywhere on the field, there is only ever one outcome that is that the Barnsley,"contestant" will NOT coem away with the ball. Have I got this wrong?
I think away, on a poor run, against 4th in the league, folk are cutting him some slack. It was hardly inspiring, but the way I see it Darryl Dikes debut didn't exactly set the world on fire. My only concern was one time he brushed shoulders with a defender he went down like a sack of pommes de terre. Hope that isn't a sign of things to come.
Anyone got any clues who this free agent striker might be , Clarke seems to think we might get him in this week .
I did like the fact that Clarke threw in the “he was identified by the recruitment team” which to me sounds like if he turns out to be another dud it’s not on him.
Hardly the brightest of debut’s, but he certainly didn’t receive much service. I wouldn’t be making him out to be the scapegoat when there were bigger culprits.
I don’t think there is a story. He played 45 minutes and was subbed. Far too short to judge a player.
I think he showed some nice touches but then also had moments where he looked way off the pace. Understandable really being thrown straight in. Let’s judge him when we’ve seen a bit more from him, including some touches in the opposition box. For the free transfer, I’m a bit worried about the “I’ve seen bits and pieces” quote from Clarke. I may be reading way too much into it but that tells me it isn’t a player that Clarke is aware of and has seen playing in the football league. For example, if it was Lucas Joao, would Clarke have seen “bits and pieces” or would he know a bit about him. I guess we will soon see. Whoever it is, let’s hope he can slot straight in instead of taking weeks to get up to speed.
Will this free transfer striker solve the game by game errors in defence that mean we never keep a clean sheet? As for Clement, I see no point in criticising him considering the other 10 offered no more than he did in a completely bizarre first half system.
In fairness Darryl Dike’s debut was against Chelsea, and he almost scored. This French guys was against Stockport, and he barely touched the ball. However, he was no worse than the other ten players on the pitch. DKD was the only player who could leave the pitch knowing they gave it a good go.
Depends who you believe. If you believe our sporting director and head of recruitment then nobody. The window is shut and that's it, business done, the squad is what it is.
Got to agree, he gives me the impression he doesn’t know much about this free agent and has never seen him play, other than bits and pieces on a video reel.
