️ Barnsley FC Sporting Director, Mladen Sormaz on the aims and objectives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzdv9lJWAbM View on YouTube...
I'm sitting in the dentists waiting room at the moment. I expect to read some interesting messages when I emerge from under the knife. I'm not going to subject other sufferers to having to listen to what might possibly be gobshite.
Now can we put him in front of someone who will ask some tough questions? This is someone with a PhD in Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. He knows his way around how the human mind works.
In house interview. Sormaz is coming across as a total coward. Not someone you want as a sporting director. Get some external interviews done.
"Right, we're going to do an interview on the transfer window. Can you send someone in from the comms team please, to ask me these questions"
You know, I think in this instance, I might actually have been more sympathetic if they'd actually not bothered with any form of interview rather than this. It just smacks of cowardice. Scared to be challenged, not brave enough to justify their actions to someone content to put difficult questions across and peel beyond the outer layer of a pre framed constructed defensive standpoint to beyond criticism. I suspect time will show this interview did him no favours whatsoever.
It comes across really badly IMO. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if he'd written those questions himself.
Who knows. Just watched it again and it might even be verging on propaganda. It's an awful interview.
Oh you should definitely watch it. The tone of the interview is probably lost in print. Tbf to the media team, they're not journalists. Their role is to create content that the Club approves. In this case, that role seems to be asking weak-ass questions that were probably given to them, or at least vetted in advance.
BUMP "The role of the owners is principally to make good appointment in terms of 1) who runs the Club (the CEO) and 2) who manages things on the pitch (the Coach). 'Judge us by our actions' does not produce a lot of evidence to say they have done that. The incompetency in terms of how the Club is managed day to day is down to the CEO. Again, recruitment is key. In this regard the key appointments are in; Player recruitment/retention team, Communications, day to day running of the Club. I can't know the detail of how that is being managed, but from the evidence I've seen and from the perspective of the Supporter/customer, it looks pretty bad - over a long period of time."
I've pretty much given up watching club produced stuff, a shame as I tended to enjoy it, but everything feels sugar coated in the most synthetic way. I'd call it naive at best. So if the tone is as you're suggesting, I think I'm definitely wise to give it a wide berth.
"Rodriguez has always been on our radar, in fact I distinctly recall that as his agent first called when I was at Pizza Express in Woking - and it is very rare for me to go to Pizza Express in Woking"
If people can take off their tinted glasses of doom off and actually listen to the interview, I think he explains the decisions quite well and context around the financial aspects of FFP. Now before I get labelled, i disagree with the buys and feel we are extremely short of a no9. I read a lot from people slagging off Cosgrove and saying he’s not good enough but suddenly now the club have moved him on it was like losing Harry Kane. We are a club with little money; yes I’d like us to have a billionaire owner who throws his pocket money into the club but give credit to the current owners who are pumping money in to keep the club on an even footing. Some fans have been blinded by negativity and can’t see the the positive in anything…bit like the wife really!
Don't disagree with much of what you've said there. It just doesn't happen to relate to my opinion on the interview, or the questions I would like him to be asked.
Taking questions from the fans would be better... 1) Do you believe you've fully supported Darrell in the transfer market? 2) Would Darrell be well within his rights to be annoyed at the lack or strengthening in key positions? 3) Why did you turn down Radio Sheffield? I presume you've no access to a phone or WiFi etc.
