Or are we better focusing on next season. Birmingham are spending ridiculous sums for this league which realistically takes one spot. Others seem to be investing much more heavily than us. Im being slightly provocative (and appreciate a lot can change in a few weeks )in asking the question, but top 2 seems pretty unrealistic as things stand.. just wondered what others’ thoughts were
We've been in play offs now for last 2 seasons. We should be aiming to better it. Simply marking up a team to build on for push the season after the one coming up isn't feasible. Because by end of next season we will be doing yet another rebuild.... So we need to strike when we can. 2 and 3 year plans are fine for when we get into the champ I'd guess. But not whilst in league 1.
We can't really pick and choose when we can actually look to go up. I've sometimes heard people say teams have "got promoted too soon" which I've never really understood the logic of. I think recruitment wise if we can acquire a left wing back a number 10 (if it's the lad from Mansfield) and another striker then I cannot see why we shouldn't be up there. We have a decent core of quality and experience in Roberts Pines Earl Connell Hourihane Phillips and Cosgrove and a couple of additions and I'd consider us to be a team to consider to be challenging.
Gets harder each year, as folk predicted. We should have gone up season before last. We should have done better last season, and would have if we'd had a strong last quarter. This coming season is yet another reset-from-zero. But we know we have some decent players and we know we still have maybe a couple to come in. We 'should' perform, but as stated we have Brum plus others to compete against.
I don’t believe so. If we do then the managers done an incredible job and / or we find a few gems up front & at left wing back. I would happily take 6th right now.
Just spending money doesn't guarantee success. It certainly helps, but if Birmingham have a slow start the crowd could be on their backs by the end of September and the whole place toxic by mid-October...
I would say it’s a season of rebuilding pretty much like Duff had. Duff exceeded expectations and finished 4th. Anything around the top 6 would be a bonus and show a HC doing a great job. I can’t see us troubling the top 2. Not enough goals in us. Things of course can change.
Yes otherwise what's the point. We can't focus on the following season as we all know we will be doing another rebuild.
With this squad as it is at the moment, no. Huddersfield & Birmingham will make up the top two in my opinion. And there are stronger teams than us that will make up the play offs. Blackpool, Wigan, Peterborough, Charlton, then there’s the newly promoted duo of Stockport & Wrexham who are both on a crest of a wave, with winning mentalities, also Bolton!
I can’t see us making the playoffs, let alone the top 2. Far too much change, and far too many gaps left to fill.
