Willum Þór Willumsson, who was going to be playing in Europe this season with Go Ahead Eagles.

Signs for a record breaking fee. I wonder what persuaded him to drop down to the English 3rd tier.... Hmmmm.... Nothing springs to mind at all.

Absolutely unbelievable that you can spend that in the 3rd tier, considering they've lost £50m in the last 2 years!

When the American guy pulls the plug all their fans will be crying about "fit and proper" etc... We've seen it time and time again with Wigan, Reading, Derby, Wednesday etc...

I think there's some hope that the owners are more than your usual fly by nights, and it feels realistic to me. They've just bought a big chunk of east Birmingham and are planning big things (think slightly smaller Etihad campus). Much more potential than the likes of Reading and Wigan.

Having said that, I am surprised to see so much money being spent on players in the third tier. Thought they were focusing more on the long term.

They've got the funds from somewhere - new owners aren't that rich for football club owners but that manager is a massive gamble

And people still moan when we can't compete with them :p

Absolutely crazy figures. Football is mental.

I'm glad football is played on grass and there are 6 points up for grabs. Couldn't give two f cuks.

They have sold over 17,000 season tickets, so if they go well next season, will probably gets crowds in the high 20s.

Just spent another alleged £3.5m on Christoph Klarer, a centre back who played 30 games in the bundesliga last season!

Tbf they absolutely should stroll it. Second biggest city in the UK. It's criminal really that they've been allowed to fall into Division 3.

That's what employing Wayne Rooney does to a club. Fear for Plymouth tbh with him at the helm.
A speed bumb on a runway would be more use than him

I recall there was some initial dispensation for relegated teams relating to scmp (financial fair play) but it was based on historic deals and a higher wage to revenue figure in the first year (maybe longer). But this seems ridiculous beyond words. I'm guessing the owners are capitalising this investment?

But overall, its just another example that sport and football in particular is utterly broken.
