Bloody hell, what a relief. It wasn't even close in either Barnsley North or South!? I'm glad all my bairning was for nothing
When I went to bed, it was about 99% for Sheffield Hallam to vote Lib Dem too, but Labour held. I think the percentages are probably misleading.
To clarify, I am sorry for any false tarring of Barnsley residents I made in my original post - but I’m still concerned that so many people did vote in the way they did. Either way, we should all be very happy this morning and those of you that aren’t happy that reform didn’t get in, to coin a previously used phrase, you lost, get over it…
Still a significant five figure number voted for Reform in Barnsley. So whilst thankfully they didn't get elected, it's still concerning the support is so big.
2 lads in our footy chat voted for him despite never even googling him & had no idea he made them comments. Bonkers
What we have to remember is, whether we like him or not (Farage) and I dislike him intensely. one or 2 policies will have resonated with some supporters. The raising of the tax thresholds would have been one to raise eyebrows, to those at the bottom of the pay scale. And those at the higher if I remember rightly. £20k and £70k respectively. For most of us a saving of £1500. Those on £52k plus. £5k. Saving. Looking after the poor but those on higher earnings more.
But it isn't just them being called out is it ? Go back to the beginning of the thread . The town and everyone who lives in it were being labelled as shameful, embarrassing and racist based on a rumour. Yes it's worrying that a lot voted reform but as it turns out there are still hell of a lot of decent folk in this town that have been wrongly vilified by people who ought to know better, or believe they do anyway
Hope this makes you chuckle. My mrs said "thank god". ( she's a committed Labour supporter) "at least you wont be sweaing at the telly all the time. When torys pop up." Seconds later Sunak pops up with his buggering off speech. Im back to norm lol. "%%#/&$¥ £ ×$$)%,* 'd ----- %$"k off and take Boris's furniture he was given wi thi.
So am I, imagine the licence to be even more obnoxious a Reform win would have given the bigoted racists.
The first few pages of this thread are a typical snapshot of modern day society. A nasty hysterical knee jerk reaction to a social media post. Many of the comments are shameful and a disgrace to our great town. People voted how they chose to vote, accept it and ask yourself why they voted the way they did and then work towards changing the mindset of those you don't agree with. The fact is both Labour candidates for Barnsley North & South increased their vote numbers compared to 2019, I congratulate the Barnsley electorate for delivering this result. The Reform Party who we were told were going to win both Barnsley seats were left trailing way behind the two excellent Labour candidates and compared to the 2019 results their numbers (BREXIT PARTY) are very similar or slightly down. We the people of Barnsley are what makes this place great, be proud of where you live! UP THE REDS!!
Went to bed last night fearing I was going to wake up to even more horrible comments about our town. A nice surprise waking up for work to see Reform didn’t get in at either.
I'm so pleased that I'll still be able to come to Barnsley and Oakwell for the foreseeable future. My sister who's lived in Spain since 1979 was allowed to vote in this election. She voted in Barnsley South (we grew up in Thurnscoe and Bolton on Dearne) and she voted Green.
