That song seems to have no point, or particular essential context in the film. Unless you're trying to get overfriendly with the eldest Von Trapp (Liesl I believe) which no doubt you would be.
Sadly for me I had understood how you got to The Sound Of Music. Though Thomas Chippendale would have been more obvious to me. And he is in parts on your doorstep at Nostell Priory.
That's a ridiculous idea, 32 teams in the Euros. But it will happen eventually. They had it right from Euro '96 onwards, top two qualify, then it's the Qtrs.
I think that would dilute the quality though. I much preferred the 16 team format, quality over quantity. But 32 would be better than 24 I agree. 36 games to eliminate 8 teams is bordering on farcical. Edit: was replying to your earlier post SD.
I thought Scotland did really well in a good contest tonight. It seems that playing out from the back is now an unwritten rule and it’s costing teams goals, which adds to the entertainment of the neutral, but it’s crap if you’re on the receiving end. They lack a ‘Big Dunc’ type of striker for me. Fantastic support, plenty of desire but nothing up top:
I'm pretty sure there are 8 decent European sides who haven't qualified. Granted it could make qualifying very easy. But.... Norway Sweden Wales Bulgaria Greece Errr, I'm struggling a bit here.....
Yeah qualifying is already a bit of a farce. The ‘bigger’ teams are nailed on these days. Perhaps teams that qualify for the knock out stages automatically qualify for the next Euro’s? I think the battle for the remaining 16 spots would then be competitive and interesting.
So...it was the last minute goal leak, in the last game wot did it this time. Neither cunning nor bizarre. So completely predictable.
I agree it does seem daft to have so many games to eliminate only 8 teams but I think with how many more countries Europe now has to when they originally started with 16 teams it makes sense. I’d also say many of the smaller nations have made it enjoyable. Georgia, Albania & Romania have all been good to watch & on paper they were probably the 3 worst teams in the tournament. None of them have disgraced themselves. Holding it in a country like Germany that’s easy to get to & has immigrants from all over Europe has led to packed stadiums which has made it enjoyable too. Seeing tens of thousands of Albanian’s going wild when they scored against Italy & the same with Georgia against Turkey & the Czech’s is great to see. Every country seems to have huge support. The main thing about their been 24 teams is the quality’s still pretty high. The fact that Norway with Haaland & Odegaard aren’t here tells you it’s still a good standard. Russia are missing for obvious reasons but them Norway, Greece, Wales & Sweden are 5 decent nations not even in the 24 competing. Theres also next to no dead rubbers with this format. In the old format with just the top two qualifying Scotland - Hungary & many other games this week wouldn’t be worth watching.
