Same. Yorkshire is a hot bed for Boxing fans. Fans of the Sport in Huddersfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Wakefield etc will come along.
Honestly if he gets anywhere near 7,500 he’s done great. Even if it’s not a sell out & there’s a few thousand in there he should be applauded for even been seen as big enough to get a fight at the stadium. Jamie McDonnell from Doncaster had a world title fight at Doncaster’s stadium & about 4,000 turned up. The promoter lost a fortune. It’s very hard to sell 7,500 tickets especially when you’re only boxing at British level & there’s not many local fighters going to be on the bill. Middle of the summer holidays as well. There’s a cruiserweight world title fight at Selhurst Park at the weekend between Riakporhe (a Palace fan) & a Bournemouth fan Billam-Smith with a packed undercard full of London fighters & biggish names & they’re only tipping that to sell 15,000 tops.
I'm not sure about this. It's a new event. Especially to Barnsley, outside of the white collar stuff at the Metrodome. I think it will sell out. Especially seeing the interest I'm seeing taking place. Had it been the 10th or 11th time at oakwell, I might agree, but it's the 1st. And 1st time many of Barnsley residents will have the chance to attend such an event without travelling "darn there"
Good luck to both boxers, it'll be a cracking night an a crowd of 7k plus will be awesome, be surprised if they sell out [ price ], Simpson is good tidy fighter an a Barnsley lad but this is his hardest fight to date, Zach for me, will be too strong.
Hopefully later in his career he will do another headline fight at oakwell. After British he will want to go European title and then Hopefully even further. Maybe if he does another we can use the full ground.
I really hope you’re right. I just don’t want to see people making it out to be a disappointment if there’s say 4-5,000 in there. That would still be a great effort. Just from a lot of years following boxing it’s very hard to sell stadiums & big arenas out.
I think it will sell out and cal will be too strong for him. Its his toughest test to date but I think chellis level is domestic callum has potential to go alot further.
I've never been to watch boxing and this is the only exception I would ever make. It's just not my thing. I'm struggling a bit to get my head round the format though. Every fight I've ever seen, the ring is in the middle with spectators around it. This won't be that. I wonder what impact that will have on view and atmosphere?
I'm feeling exactly the same Marc. Not really a fan of boxing at all although probably once a year if that I watch a big name fight on the TV with my brother in law mainly because he enjoys it more than me but this is something I'd be interested in seeing with it being a Barnsley fan at Oakwell. But I really can't get my head around the idea of opening just the east stand and all of it. Will someone sitting in the bottom corner of the lower or the top corner of the upper tier really be able to see much? And won't the atmosphere be like a league cup game when only one stand is open? I saw Bournemouth did one last year and they had all stands open and put seats o the pitch too. Not knocking it at all I think it's brilliant and a great starter move that can only be good for the club but I'm very confused by it
Tickets will likely start at £40+ too which will put a fair few off. If it gets close to a sell out he’ll have done very well this early on in his career.
So much we don't know. We don't know where the ring will be. What time turnstiles open. How many fights there is. Who is on the undercard. It's a Barnsley fan who doesn't have such a big profile yet, facing someone many won't have heard of, sitting in one stand and likely having zero interest in the undercard. We don't know what the behaviour of those watching will be with tanked up fans from all across the county turning up. We don't know if there will be restricted viewing seats due to TV cameras and stage lighting. I'm sure it will be a success and 30 quid isn't bad if you're interested in the whole card. But if you're only bothered about a main event that could only last a few rounds, it's maybe better to watch at home.
Says starting price is £30. I thought I couldn't go but I can so I'll definitely go. I'm sure the promoters have thought about how to stage it.
https://www.barnsleychronicle.com/a...-can-put-town-on-map-with-callums-dream-fight Could be a one off. A few fights time maybe he will be on a show in Saudi Arabia earning lots of cash.
Can't blame him that's where the money is. And if he does get to world level there's some great match ups at super middle weight. I just can't see canelo wanting to come to oakwell.
