No, but I did used to buy a TV license every four years for the Olympics/Euros (we have one all the time now but it sits unused over 300 days of the year, probably more).
Will just came back with a case of lager from Morrisons because 'football's going to be on'. He doesn't care about football... apparently... unless I've finally converted him?! He does seem to chip in with comments that shows he's been listening when I have iFollow commentary on. Neither of us really bother about drinking so it's not just an excuse to get on the beers son.
Now I'm curious did you actually only buy it for the euros and not the world cup or was that just a mistake?
We bought it for the Olympics but the Euros are always on in the same year so it was good for both. World Cup (and Euros for our matches) I would watch at the pub. I won't watch football in the pub now that chucking your pint all over everyone is a thing (except when I went into Walkabout in Leeds for their playoff final because there was no chance of that ) but I have a licence so I just watch it at home anyway.
I bought a tele for a world cup from Curries. Deal was I got 10 pound for every goal scored by England ,think I got 30 quid ffs
No of course I haven't, what a weird question lol. I just goto the local pubs if I can (if I'm off work), for the England tournament games.
It was a bit before my time as a fan Ian kid lol. But you all got to experience that W.German World cup in '74. Did you enjoy any of it as fans, just being there etc. We didn't make it, because of Poland at Wembley of course!.
On a similar note, I've never bought a mobile phone. Same footing as you. Think I'm on my 5th. As for football I dont watch any. Barring tarn and the odd highlights show.
In the same vein, I've never purchased a single suitcase. For some reason my mother appears to collect them. Some she gets new, others she finds in charity shops. Whenever I need a new suitcase I just go to my mum's to see what she's got knocking around in her spare room. She also buys at least 3 of every kitchen implement. She only ever gets decent brands as well, so when we moved back to the UK we equipped our kitchen with Bosch and Moulinex gadgets, Le Creuset pots and Alessi cutlery, absolutely gratis. The way I see it we're doing her a favour by freeing up the space.
Of course we enjoyed it. Unlike yourselves we have no big expectations so never really disappointed. We just party win lose or draw. Like it should be. Oh yes Poland with according to Cloughie they had a clown of a keeper. Think they had the last laugh.
Yeah that was pathetic what Cloughie said, about Jan Tomasewski the keeper. But be honest Ian, surely you lot can't say that every single time though. Do you really just enjoy being there, and making up the numbers, and going out in the group rounds, every time. Seriously ?.
Yes seriously. We do not have the players to put up any real challenge. As I said no real expectations so never really disappointed. Hopefully we hold our own and do not embarrass ourselves. Giving us a wee chance of progressing out of the section. Just getting to Germany was success for us. Been a long time.
No, but during my second year at University, my housemates and I all chipped in to get a TV and Sky Package for when the Premier League launched.I think we might have rented the TV from Radio Rentals Edit: It's weird how your memory changes things. I just checked the dates; it was the second year of the premier league!
Except for 1978 of course and Ally’s Army: “… and we’ll really shake them up when we win the World Cup, cos Scotland are the greatest football team”. And then “we want our money back” after the draw with Iran. To be fair, England think they’ll do something every time except perhaps 2018 when we nearly did.
Haha 1978. But England couldna dae it coz they didna qualify. Great lyrics but only a song. Dinna get yir knickers in a twist over it
I don’t. I enjoyed all the games I watched in that World Cup from memory. Maybe not the one where Peru lost 6-0 (?) to Argentina which weirdly was just what the hosts needed to progress. You’ve got to go in with some optimism whoever you are, otherwise what’s the point? As the saying goes, if winning doesn’t matter why keep score?
Speaking of TVs… It’s that time where I begrudgingly need to buy a new one as ours is knackered. Any recommendations on brands etc? Our current one is 48”. Not that arsed other than size as it needs to fit in a media wall and is a decent enough picture and will last a few years.
I'm currently waiting for my girlfriend's new rucksack to be in stock at whatever European store sells it so that I can have her old one. She needs them to be fully waterproof and I don't, so the slightest nick and I get to upgrade!
