Invited round to my mate's house to watch Ross v Raith it the Scottish Prem playoff which Ross won 4 - 0. Jack Baldwin, Ross's captain, is their son so naturally they were over the moon as were we for them.
I've always wanted to watch ross county ever since I was a teenager. Was looking over month at trains. Nightmare to get to. Think it'll have to stay on my bucket list
I’m assuming you are in Barnsley. Train to Edinburgh can be affordable. Then train or mega bus to Perth. Then mega bus to Inverness. If you do it in summer it provides some excellent views. About two and a half hours through the mountains. Then bus or train to Dingwall. Only about 30 minutes away. Well worth the effort. Hope you find time to do it.
Staggies are youngest grandson fav scottish team always go when we go to aviemore late august yearly we drive up / then from aviemore 50 minutes by road / park for FREE in edge of town walk to ground trains direct from york to inverness ( others with change in edinburgh) then bus or train to dingwall / 400 yards from train station to ground very small stadium / for big games gotta be registered on club website to get tickets great place to visit and if game poor magnificent views over stand of mountains better pies than oakwell !!!!!!! hope yer enjoy a visit
Btw be aware if you travel to Perth by train the bus exchange is at Broxden about a mile and a half from the train station. Best bet would be mega bus from Edinburgh to Perth then change for Inverness.
We are in the middle of Lincolnshire ! If ever they want to visit Jack apparently it takes about seven and a half hours to Dingwall. And I moan about the trudge to Oakwell which takes an hour. I may give it a miss .... unless they take me along.
The Finance Director of my old company was a Ross County fan - you wouldn't have thought there'd have been many in SY.
Cos they were entertaining half a dozen of us yokels in their house with food and drinkies. Champagne at full time !!
Out Gainsborough way. Must admit I've never been there, though the pictures on Google look very nice!
I thought that you may pick my up on the fact that Ross is a county and Raith not a place at all as in the old Sam Leitch quote “ they’ll be dancing in the streets of Raith tonight”.
Really appreciate the above pal. Yeah I live just outside of barnsley. I was just looking at trains and was about £700-£900 return and don't think the Mrs would have been impressed with me paying that but I've screen shotted your comments and will defo look into your advice . Cheers pal
Apparently Raith Rovers play in Kirkcaldy. Raith is not a place. Hence the quote by Sam Leitch (sometimes erroneously ascribed to David Coleman) is risible. source - Wikipedia
