I'm ok with that attitude. Prefer that to an ex-elite footballer thinking he has a divine right to a PL gig. Knows about defending too. ;-)
I mean, he was a good player, but always seemed supremely arrogant and not a leader, who's going to lay it on the line for Cashley Cole? no one.
He was a world class player in his time. The best in the world in his position for a while, but I cannot think of one player from that generation of England players that have gone on to become a good manager. Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Neville etc. have all tried and flopped in management. All top players but have all failed to transition to management.
Was Southgate not part of that generation? Or does England manager not count as transitioned to management?
No that is a fair point, he came into the side a bit before Cole and that but was still there as that lot joined in. He was not in the so called 'golden generation' side though that had Cole, Rooney, Rio, Terry etc. that I was thinking of though.
Sol Campbell another of that era. Easy street is going down the media route. Roy Keane (yeah I know he's not English) Alan Shearer Michael Owen Rio Ferdinand Steve Mcmanaman Gary Neville Jamie Redknapp.
