Ruel Sotiriou. Out of contract at Leyton Orient. John McAtee type player. Generally a number 10 but can play as a second striker. Scored 11 and assisted 5 this season. Only 23. Scored at Oakwell, looked a handful. Edit: I didn't properly read the OP to see you'd also suggested, Gassan Ahadme. Technically not a league 1 player, but on loan at Cambridge from Ipswich. Tall, physical striker who's good in a press. Also 23, also got 11 goals, though he spent a decent chunk of the season out injured, so has only played 28 games. Scored at Oakwell, looked a handful. Jamie Cumming. Very experienced keeper at this level despite only being 24. On loan at Oxford from Chelsea, but had rave reviews in the past in 2 loan spells at MK Dons. Excellent shot stopper of Roberts isn't to stay. Louie Barry. 20 year old striker on loan at Stockport from Aston Villa. A mate of mine who supports County said their season almost derailed when he got injured. Scored 9 in 19 before a serious injury ruled him out for 6 months. Not scored since returning mind.
Some great suggestions on this thread. I’ll be amazed if we sign any of them though to be honest. They’ll all have suitors offering more than us (assuming we’re still in L1). It’s as big a summer window as I can remember. Club is at a crossroads…..where do we go from here?
We won't have a pot to p!ss in I'm afraid, so don't expect many good signings! Next season is going to be extremely tough and not for the faint hearted I think.
Lofthouse is apparently having an excellent season too so I'd definitely add him to that list. Shepherd I didn't mind signing, cost pennies, and it could prove a decent signing. Probably as a squad player but who knows.
Barry was touted as a proper future England prospect at 16/17. Went quiet as he had fairly poor loans at Salford & MK Dons, but as you mention he's still only 20 so plenty of time left yet, certainly had a very decent loan spell at Stockport too this season
Remember when Duff arrived, and after being here a week or two said that the shopping list for players here was more or less the same as they had at Cheltenham.. anyone still wondering why we've not got out of L1 yet.
We'd all like to bring in who we want, the thing is and i think a lot on ere dont know is that whoever comes in, will be told who they are having and getting, simple as that.
Or at least at a higher standard than here.. caught lots of people's eye.. You see what we are trying to do is correct.. that is to spot players before they bang in twenty goals at Cambridge or Carlisle or are player of the season at Fleetwood or Stockport. When they've done that everyone is aware of them and the price goes up.. Our main problem is we bring in too many at one time and always for similar positions.. its like we cannot make our mind up who to have a punt on so we take the lot... Scatter gun
Probably not, but you could argue that 4 of our top earners are leaving at the end of the season, which will free up some budget.
Wimbledon supporting mate reckons the keeper they have on loan from Sunderland is pretty good - Alex Bass. 25 and played a fair bit of league football.
Also quality over quantity, what calibre of player could we have brought in for the cost of Dallas, Shaw, Watters and Cosgrove
The guy that scored Cambridge’s second goal at Oakwell. Forgot his name but think it sounded like of Asian origin? Scored a few since us. He looked really useful. Worth a punt I reckon. Edit : Found it, Gassan Ahadme.
I honestly think Cosgrove could come good. Watters is still relatively young at 25 and will probably get another chance with whoever the new boss is. He’s obviously lacking in confidence. Dallas and Shaw absolutely pointless, we could have possibly signed one decent player instead.
Now he's free and wrexham are in L1 it's easier for em. That's the type of signing they will make anyway now they are up.
