Britain has never had a large standing army, during napoleonic wars we paid 1/4 of our military budget to other European countries to have actual armies. Any large confrontation would obviously result in conscription, it goes without saying.
Unfortunately history tells us that eventually there will be war, you can pretend it will never happen again. Look at what is happening around the world now, it is only a matter of time. We bury our heads in the sand but the human race doesn't deserve this world. It is only a matter of time till we blow ourselves to bits. Probably happen when we qualify for the champions league just our luck
According to that bastion of journalistic integrity, The Daily Star, 90% of us would politely decline the invitation to join a citizens' army. And 'health chiefs' say we are all too fat to join up in any event. Hopefully the countries between us and the warlike lads of Russia will be more resolute!
