Jesus wept, poor Wimbledon wanted to be used in some political social experiment, glad the fans rebuilt the club from the bottom up.
Another example of the power of the game being used as a political weapon.

Just read that. In fairness from a purely political point of view I can see why it would have made sense at that time. Though glad it didn’t come off.

They of course upped and moved the club to MK anyway, fair enough only about 60 miles and not overseas - but the net result was still the same, and the Phoenix club was still created. The fact AFC Wimbledon made it to, and have stayed in, the football league is amazing, a real achievement and testament to the resolve of the supporters - and to those fans I doubt the ‘old club’ being MK Dons and a two hour round trip away makes little difference to if they were Belfast United and a plane ride. They’d still have the same distaste I imagine.

I read that this morning as well and couldn’t believe what I was reading. Just goes to show that whatever colour rosette is on the candidate at election time you are guaranteed to pick a blithering idiot with no grasp of real life.

They are all as bad as each other. The only “Blair” that I liked was the one played by Hugh Grant in Love Actually.

Recall going to MK Dons a good few year ago, I was waiting in a queue to pick up a ticket that had been left for me, there was a kid In front with his pals who clearly knew I was from Barnsley…..they were trying to take the piss as at the time they were doing well and us not so much……I’ve never liked them and never will, when we went to AFC Wimbledon (a think In the Stendel days) it was one of the best away days I had that season

I went to MK Dons at the hockey stadium 1st game of the season, if I'm not mistaken we have the unwanted stat of being their first ever league game that day

That’s a bit unfair. There are some good representatives in the commons. There really are.

    They’re really not.

It isn’t a coincidence that in the year leading up to a general election the established government look set to lose, against the wishes of a lot of the media establishment, stories like this are pushed front and centre to remind folk - or announce - perceived failings of previous Labour governments.

The gaslighting has started, and will continue. Don’t be fooled. Starmer is no John Smith and I have my issues with him myself but to think he’s as bad a prospect than Sunak, Johnson, Truss, whoever would be next - Suella? The prospect doesn’t bear thinking about.

Wimbledon moved to another city anyway without interference from politicians.

At least the proposed move to Belfast was for reasons other than money and an idea to help unite a divided city.

The long-standing Wimbledon fans wouldn’t see it that way though.

I actually think a big Belfast side would be a pretty fun addition to our league & I’d also happily have the Scottish league merged too but I’m realistic enough to know it’ll never happen.

Of course not, but the team left Wimbledon anyway. I don't believe any move should have happened, but the proposed move to Belfast at least came out of an idea to improve things for a fractured city. Rather than a move to Milton Keynes to make money.

I bet not many fans of other clubs would have fancied the away day trip to Belfast. For all the political self congratulatory slaps on the back it would have been a security nightmare
