Tbf. the defender who fekked up didnt help. Not sure if there is owt in the rules to be able to disallow the goal. Same if the ref blocks an obvious goal. Can't give it. It is a bit s41t but a mishap not a mistake. Unless its offside. Not 2 players playing em onside. Looks a forward pass to me. So offside imo.
The goal was disallowed by VAR for offside. But it should never have got to that point and it doesn't help that much in the 93rd minute in the playoffs. The ref bodychecked the player going for the ball in a good position. Not sure how it could be done within the rules, but logic to me would say the corner should have been retaken or at the very least there should have been a drop-ball on the edge of the box.
First thing I noticed. As the goalkeeper is upfield technically the last defender becomes the goalkeeper however the final pass was made forward to a player even further up the the field to slot home.
This is the problem with VAR. If I was a ref and that happened I'd be looking for an excuse to stop the game because I wouldn't want to hit the headlines for such a massive **** up. Can I stop it quickly by saying the player looks injured? Is there an offside? Quick think. These days refs know they can fall back on var so it doesn't matter if they stop it or not, VAR will intervene and look to do their jobs for them. It's why we see offsides not given because Var Can do their job later or penalties not given because VAR will intervene and do their job for them etc.
It's absolute doggy doo doo is VAR, they are checking every goal for the most miniscule detail, but the most obvious stuff they are getting wrong, it's ruined the game. Let the refs go back to how it was and give each team 3 reviews and that's it, the onus falls on the captain to ask for a review and crack on.
You'd think that a player with the experience of Carlos Vela would have released that pass a bit sooner to ensure his team mate was onside. That was really poor.
Can't believe the player didn't realise that him playing it forward like that would be offside. Does he not know the laws of the game?
