The Manager of the Month award is a waste of time. They should just rename it the ‘Manager of whichever team got the most points that month, irrespective of who he manages, who they played or what managerial decisions he made award’ The manager of the smallest team in the division, at the bottom of the division, could help his team beat the top 3 teams away after making substitutions and tactical changes during the match that clinch the victories, but then lose one match and draw the other, but he would then lose out on the award to manager of the team at the top, who have parachute payments and players on £30k per week, who beat 5 teams in and around the relegation zone. Actual managerial performances don’t come into it. I can’t imagine a bookmaker would even give you odds on who’ll win the award, cos all you have to do is tot up the points and 99 times out of 100 you’d be right.
But in the pages of history, every once in a while, fate reaches out and extends its hand. What shall the history books read?
