No, I think there might be some suggestion made to the manager in terms of having certain numbers of young players in the squad or ensuring that loan players get minutes in order to maintain relationships with other clubs but directly saying who to play? I doubt it. Also, how would it work? JAQ tells Collins who to start. What about subs? Injuries? If he disagrees with the XI what's to stop him making three subs after 5 minutes to put his own stamp on the side?
@redrum Sorry to involve you.. But look at our conversation from 2020 regarding the board picking the team etc, I don't mind you posting it
Why hasn't any of the previous managers including those that failed with us come out and said anything in regards to the board interfering with decisions like this? Surely it would paint them in a better light if they can say "oh they picked who theu wanted it was out of my hands" It more sounds like a player and his family picking a reason out of thin air why he wasn't getting game time.
No way. Anyone claiming otherwise is just daft. As others have said, this would be one of the first things managers would mention after leaving the club - especially when sacked.
Yep I remember you telling me this was a thing.. although we had conman in charge back then. No way would wilder, warnock etc be letting anyone above pick the team.
"Evidence" - someone suggested to Ismael that he should replace Romal Palmer. At the same time, everyone watching the game is screaming "GET PALMER OFF"!
Yes. I don't know but suspect if we play iseka one more time we trigger a £100 million add on clause. Hence we don't. Hence Conway allowed his shares to be diluted. Big payday gone.
Not directly no, as in the manager isn't told to play certain players specifically in specific games but the club have actually admitted that they dictate that certain players have a minimum amount of game time
No they didn’t what they said was that Managers have targets for younger players to get certain amount of minutes in a season.
Well…the board are on record, many times, of saying they want the team to play a certain way, i.e. a high tempo pressing game, and recruit managers who fit with this philosophy. I don’t know whether this is still the case, but I wouldn’t imagine they’d be very happy if the manager strays from this style of play.
I can’t see it. If that was the case surely we wouldn’t be playing McCart over Shepherd & Mcatee over Cosgrove & Watters. I can’t imagine we need to keep a good relationship with Rotherham.
No imo. What has been said. Since this lot took over. In meetings I attended. We want game time for those coming through. (It is a natural progression for any footballer). And as I've seen it. On the bench but more so. In the EFL trophy and its previous Sponsors. Some will obviously get more game time given the state of the game. How many Academy players have started this Season in the league.? I can only think of Chapman. And when since time began have those coming through not been given opportunities. Some I dare say. Kept waiting longer than necessary. I'm not sure if Thompson is ready. But I don't see him Game in. Game out. But of those I have seen. he's been quite impressive. Didn't cost us the game yesterday whatever folk think.
