This will be a brief one, as its difficult to do a preview of a game against a reserve team. The only bookies currently offering prices on this game are betvictor, who have us as heavy 6/11 favourites. City's u21's have started the Premier League 2 season with a win, a draw and 3 defeats and sit 17th out of 26 teams. They've beaten Grimsby on penalties already in this competition, despite squandering a 2 goal lead. They were reduced to 10 men 35 minutes in, and held out until the 91st minute. Grimsby actually had a late winner disallowed too for offside. We've faced Man City U21s once before in this competition. Daniel Stendel's reasonably strong side led 1-0 and 3-2 before losing on penalties. The only surviving reds player from that squad was Jordan Williams, who scored the reds equaliser at 2-2. Looking at the City team that day, pretty much all of them are playing at least at Championship level, with the exception of Salford's Luke Bolton and Halifax goalkeeper Tom Scott. Former Barnsley loanee Claudio Gomes was an unused substitute. Martin Woods is the scheduled referee, and is in his second season as a league referee. He's issued 17 yellow cards and 2 reds in 6 games so far this season. His only reds appointment in the past was our 0-3 defeat to Lincoln in this competition 12 months ago; a game notable for the dismissal of James Norwood after 22 minutes with the reds already 2 goals down. I reckon our side will be reasonably strong for this one, what with a number of younger players heading out in loan this week. It's an impossible game to predict though. I'm going for 3-0 reds with Phillips, Styles and Cosgrove on the scoresheet.
Wouldn't it be funny if about 1500 turned up and Pep sprang a late surprise by naming Haaland and Foden in the starting line up.
Not reight bothered to be honest, however having said that its a good run art for the fringe plasyers to get some game time, and for that reason alone i'm hoping for a win, 5 - Nowt keep the faith, C,O,Y,R.
Absolutely no interest whatsoever. Our side will effectively be an u21's as well, with a couple of older players being given a runout. A glorified friendly.
Same old record, but it's true. Our defence is plop.. Plus City's young guns trying to catch the eye.. not a good mix. 0-5 City, too quick in head and feet for ours
They struggled past Grimsby reserves. The players in general are likely to be around the standard of Tedic.
