I watched the 23s last week and Lofty was outstanding,I honestly thought he would be knocking on the door of the first team What do I know .
When you sign a player for development its an obvious move for the player to get more minutes. Hes behind Williams,Cotter and O Keeffe so it should be a good move for all involved.
Can’t write the kid off but I’m very confident he’ll turn out to be a crap signing who we’ll never see again. A bit like Dallas. Waste of wages.
How? Sign a young player for development, send player out on loan for development. Hopefully comes back a better player. Makes sense to me?
Have you watched him ,he looks very quick and puts a great ball into the mixer. I remember a young Mark Robinson getting stick from the Brewery stand in the 80s , I liked him. He went on to better things if I remember.
Oooh, some news. what can I think of to criticise. I like Barnsley FC, I like a lot of our players, I thought the guts and determination they showed the other night was magnificent, even though it ultimately ended in defeat. I'm becoming more and more ambivalent about some of our fans.
I think that second half should get us all enthusiastic, with a little bit more luck we could have retrieved a point. Yes we got it all wrong in the first half, but Portsmouth are one of the best teams in this league, hopefully it's a learning curve and we're more equipped to handle hurdles in the future. The subs were fantastic, even if, in my opinion, they should have been made earlier
Have footballers always waited so long before playing for a 'proper' team? Growing up I thought players were breaking into the first team at about 19/20 but these days we seem to have players at 23/24 who are still 'developing' at lower league clubs before we bring them in or let them go. Is it just my memory playing tricks on me or did players used to break through earlier?
Absolutely, but with some sort of measured approach. A lot of signings we’ve made might make a couple of appearances and are then shipped out on loan, never to be seen again. I suspect that’ll be the case with Shaw, possibly Dallas. Pointless exercise really. Guess that’s the way the game is now with most clubs, but we seem pretty good at it.
