Rotherham United striker Joshua Kayode, as per Doug O’Kane. His goal came in Rotherham United’s Carabao Cup clash against Morecambe. He spent most of last season on loan in League One with MK Dons where he only managed nine appearances in all competitions. Before that he featured often for the Millers in their promotion-winning season in League One. He played in 20 league games and scored once, assisting a further three during the 2021/22 season. Now, it seems he may be on the move back to the third tier with Barnsley said to be getting closer to a deal. that's some average
I'll be honest, I don't know much about him, but what we need is a striker who can hold the ball up, likes to press, and link up with the midfield. If he's that sort of player then I'm not overly concerned with his goal record. If he helps us defend a lead by helping the ball stick up front, or can bring players like Phillips, Kane and Cadden into the attack, the team as a whole will score more goals. We could go out and sign another player who's just scored 25 goals at this level, but if they're no different to the strikers we already have, their goal return previously is irrelevant.
Who do we think will be the diamond in the rough out of Watters, Dallas, Shaw and Kayode then?..... Probably only need one of them to be a success and sell on for it to be worth it. Obviously promotion and immediate success isn't a priority.
im very concerned by us signing a non scoring centre forward who may well be outscored by Cadden. Shouldn’t we just sign a defensive midfielder if we need extra defenders not a defensive CF. If he comes of course I will support him but on the surface seems a very strange move. If we signed a player who d ores 20 goals plus we would get promoted
But we need someone who the ball can stick to up front. A DM doesn't solve that, it just means we'd be defending on the edge of our own box rather than the edge of theirs. As I say, I don't know anything about him. It appears his time at MK Dons was plagued with injury, and he wasn't ever really given a run of games at Rotherham. When he did get a run of games, and stayed fit, he regularly got on the scoresheet fore Carlisle, albeit played out wide. If we signed a 20 goal striker, who had everything around him to help him score 20 goals, then yes, we'd get promoted. Sam Winnall was a 20 goal striker when he had Conor Hourihane supplying crosses into the box. When he moved to Wednesday and had Adam Reach taking pot shots from 40 yards behind him, he didn't score 20 goals. All I'm saying is, sometimes you need a striker who does the hard graft, so that other players can get on the scoresheet. Norwood's presence last season certainly enabled us to get more goals from Phillips and probably Williams in particular.
Think it's time to face some reality's the forward's we've been link with from Exeter and Wimbledon are going for 1m+ there's not a cat in hells chance they were coming here. We can't afford them but neither of them had pulled up any trees previous to ending at them clubs that's why thier there. This lad might come here and everything might click like it did for them two. The upside is he will be settled in the area one less thing to get in the way. Let's just wait and see but I think we need to be more realistic.
I recall Woodrow and Morris for example getting pelters before they had even kicked a ball. Those 2 ended up doing alright with us.
Agree with most of that. But at the same time this just feels like another punt on potential. Lump it up to the big lad he won’t score but will rough up defenders. Fine for a bottom half team but for top half you need them to be contributing 10-15 goals. Maybe this chap can do that but if we are buying him as a defensive player then it feels off to me.
I thought at that team in the Netherlands he hadnt scored in his last season, as I remember the outcry when we signed him
2 in 21 that season. I guess the difference is having a young kid on loan / someone on loan as 4th choice and signing someone who is a bit older permanently. I hope if we sign him he’s great. Just not sure we need another punt and if we do might as well get a young loan in.
