Barnsley have competed in the 2nd tier more than any club... and we've never won the flippin thing! Talk about the Tottenham of Division 2
If we'd been more successful at winning it then we probably wouldn't hold the record for being in it.
The stat is both a testament to our resilience and an indication of our limitations. Our average position over those years in the second tier is bottom third. We start virtually every season at that level heavily underfunded compared to most of the division and have to compete with one hand behind our backs. The surprise is not really that we haven't been promoted more but that we haven't been relegated more.
