The LPGA, based in the US is global and has dozens of member countries. Prize money increases every year but it is still way behind the mens game. So fortunately ( or unfortunately from a financial point of view ) there is no immediate prospects of split off tours and mega bucks being thrown about. The womens game is growing in popularity, however, which ultimately results in more and more prize money being available. This season, the total fund for all games in the LPGA equates to about £75m which must be well below the mens figure but I don’t know precisely
Generally fish is also used plural, but I think fishes can also be used. According to grammarist.com anyway
Basically, Rory has accepted the merger on the basis that the multi billion pound Saudi fund will pump in loadsa money but it will be spent wisely by the PGA/ newly formed organisation. He had no option if he wanted to continue playing his favourite game and earning millions more money !!!! He also said he had no knowledge of this agreement until yesterday morning
The whole thing is vile. Who’s talking about the ethics of all this? Seems to me all this was just about making sure they got their fair cut of the blood money. PIF are sportswashing on a global scale and no one is opposing it, because of the vast sums of money involved. Decades ago, governments & global corporations bathed in Russian money and cosied up to billionaire Oligarchs. No questions asked. Humanity has learned nothing.
Monaghan should be ashamed. He won’t be of course. Pelley will do as he’s told if he wants any cash off Monaghan/PIF Rory turned down half a billion quid on morals as did many others now they talk about it being a good thing. it’s quite amusing all the backtracking going on today
Listening to it, I think Rory is stuck in a terrible spot. You can tell from his answers he's not particularly happy and is having to tow the company line. Sad day for sport in my humble opinion.
Basically, as the OP has suggested, the Saudis have effectively bought out the sport. The PGA which have the history and 'infrastructure' have joined forces with the new kids on the block with the money. The moral and ethical arguments have been shelved so that both parties get something out of it. Personally I think the Saudis are the big winners here and the furore will die down soon as any parties with genuine concerns will simply get sucked in or spat out.
Think you are right The truely sickening site of Monihan almost sucking Al-Rumayyan off in their joint interview , the bloke must go down as one the biggest duplicitous hypocrites in history . The Saudis have targeted golf because it’s a massive tourist gateway , they’ll drastically increase the building of golf courses and hotels in Saudi now they own the professional game
You wouldn't get me near any Gulf State golf course. Environmentally disastrous, no history, boiling hot and built by misogynists, despots and murderers. Sadly plenty will lap it up.
