    For context, it's a thread about how they fail to identify hidden gems of managers like Duff/Schumacher. And that they don't have infrastructure.

    "Plymouth and Barnsley both have structures in place where the head coach is identified for a certain style and their replacement is possibly already known within the club hierarchy. We don't have this. Ipswich HAVE THROWN AROUND MONEY LEAGUE ONE PROBABLY HASN'T SEEN BEFORE. :confused:We don't have that:confused:. What we have is a team that conceded against barnsley, wobbled and conceded another immediately after and had to play catch up."

    I mean, Bannan, £21k a week anyone? They're full of absolute sh*t that lot!

    I'm still scratching my head as to how they matched us and were unlucky to lose to us!

    In comparison, I reckon Ipswich have spent much more than Wednesday in the last 2 years since they were relegated from the Championship. Certainly in terms of transfer fees. Bannan's wages are a hangover from when they believed they had an endless money pit. I do understand what you mean though, their budget is definitely in the top 3 of the division also.

    Duff is great, but his two predecessors hardly vindicate any type of system we have for recruitment.

    How we're only 4th I'll never understand. How the pigs are top after no win in 5 is bonkers

    Other than Ipswich, who else? Derby? I reckon Wednesday are either first or second. We could have 5, 6 great players on Bannan's wage alone

    I reckon Ipswich have the biggest and it's a toss up between Derby and Wednesday for second. I also reckon Wycombe and Portsmouth's would surprise a few.

    According to 1 article I've read (Capology). The estimated annual wage Bill's in league one for 22/23 are.
    1. Sheffield Wednesday £12m
    2.=Ipswich £8.7m
    2.= Derby £8.7m
    Plymouth £3.6m
    Tarn £5.1m
    Pompey £4.8m
    Wycombe £3m

    Interestingly Cheltenham £1.8m Shows what M. Duff had to work with.

    Are wages governed under EFL embargos?

    60% of turnover for league 1 clubs

    Relegated clubs
    The rules apply to all clubs and there is no moratorium for clubs relegated from the Championship. However, Transitional Arrangements are in place whereby clubs are allowed to exclude the wage costs of all players that the club signed pre September of the relegation season, if they were signed on contracts in excess of 3 seasons.

    Turnover definition
    Under the SCMP rules, the definition of 'Turnover' is particularly important as Turnover is used to determine the maximum wage-spend. Within a traditional accounting perspective, there are usually only three elements of turnover:
    • Match-day Income
    • Commercial Income (such as sponsorship)
    • TV revenue (and any 'merit payments' based on league position)
    However the Football League use a is broader definition of Turnover. Crucially, the FL Turnover figure includes donations from the owners to the club and injections of equity. Loans from club owners are understandably not included in the Turnover figure as these would result in growing club debts.

    I'm surprised ours is so high, but I guess we do have quite a big squad.

    As well as Bannan, Wednesday also managed to convince two Rotherham players to drop back down a division, so they will be on a decent wage. As will Gregory, Flint, Windass etc... It wouldn't surprise me if there's is the highest wage bill in the league.

    Don't seem to be, isn't that how teams get round the embargo?

    Its a disgrace though that Derby are still doing that, paying massive wages after what they were recently punished for.
    The sooner they p*iss away their play off chances, the better.
