In that case why do young people even bother to be involved with how their future is mapped at all. Especially by people who won’t be the least affected by the changes they say are necessary?
First they came for the Communists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for me
Because unlike us in this country that roll over and have our bellies tickled they have the balls to protest
Solidarity with others. Because one day it will affect them and if they look to do nothing now, by the time they reach retirement age it will be even closer to ours. If you don't kick up a fuss those in power think they can get away with more because the public look like they don't care.
Why do men care whether women can vote or not? Why do straight people care whether gay people can get married and adopt kids? Why do white people care whether black people are slaves or not?
Because it's the first step. Move it to 64 now, maybe 67 in five years, then 70 and by the time today's 20 year olds get to pension age it might be 80. Good to see the French sticking together, doubt it would happen here as the Tories have been very successful in their use of divide and conquer to get us all racing to the bottom.
So if the govt had said they were going to euthanise you once you got to your 60s then you'd expect only people in their 60s to protest then? Weird logic.
Christ almighty this is what we’re up against in this country. Won’t stand together long enough for a photograph nevermind a meaningful protest that could enact change.
And in one post you have summed up how we in this country have ended up in the state we are. I’m just about to hit 40 and I’d wager by the time I get there (if I do), retirement age will be 70. I’ll probably have died or just about to due to having no free healthcare, massively reduced holiday allowances for the last 20 years of my career so I’ll have worked myself into an early grave, or just starved or frozen to death. The French taking a stand against this ought to be looked up to, but far too many just look on and mock.
