It’s no wonder the hospital are in the mire when my doctor won’t do a simple blood test at the surgery and instead sends me to the hospital for them to do it
Sounds like our doctor. Will only do bloods if you're over the age of 65. They also won't do shared care (repeat prescriptions of medication issued by other doctors) meaning we have to contact Dewsbury hospital to get the meds. Appointment system is shambolic - saw GP who said to make a follow up appointment in 4 weeks for medication review and possible extension of sick note. Asked receptionist and earliest she would be able to do would be 6 weeks but those appointments hadn't even been released yet.
Because doctors surgeries always have labs in the basement? While it might be worse for you to go to the hospital for a blood test, it might be cheaper and more efficient *for the NHS* for you to go to the hospital for the blood test. At the least, it would likely involve taking a sample - if there is a phlebotomist working - sticking in the post or courier to the hospital, to then be tested (if it isn't time sensitive), then get the results back.
It's annoying. I can't have my blood tests at work because my GP wants me to have them at Greasbrough. Probably cheaper for the practice with it being West Yorkshire/ South Yorkshire.
Appointment is for the 24 April 5 weeks away the doc could have done bloods today and had results back by Friday but now got to wait 5 weeks then another week for results then possibly another month to see the doc about the results
I was told that the doctors surgery itself pays the costs of transporting them to the hospital rather than the NHS as they're private businesses who simply take on contracts of NHS customers so it's GPs trying to save itself cash by insisting you go to the hospital. Not sure how accurate that is though, my sister is a bit dim
Sure I heard that Doctors used to get paid to do Blood tests but don’t now. Not sure how true that is but would tie in with your post.
Whilst I fully understand the frustration felt by people when things are less than perfect with the service provided by the NHS, it's in all our benefit not to fall into the trap of constantly harping on about it. This is a deliberate policy by successive Tory governments to run the service down and make it so bad that nobody bats an eyelid when they eventually privatise it. A policy that you will NEVER see in a Tory manifesto.
Totally agree. The current ‘government’ has only one competence: conning people into apportioning the blame elsewhere whilst it continues to dismantle everything this country used to value.
I had a blood test at my doctors but after seeing the doctor I had to go to reception and make an appointment for a blood test in a 10 days time. Took about a minute to take some blood. In time it took to make the appointment he could have taken a bit of blood
Have my critical illness review tomorrow in Hoyland. Have to cab it there as public transport is as bad as healthcare. Will then carry on into Barnsley on the bus & kill time before football. Got an eye test booked & have a look around town for first time in a few years.
