Don’t forget child care. A woman on LBC today saying she couldn’t work because all her wages would be paid out in childcare. Someone from Sweden saying their child care was available from 7.00am to 7pm and cost £60 a month!
This is what sickens me the most; Sunac, Braverman, Kwateng etc, all from immigrant families. Now such immigrants can fùck off they can't come in.
It seems to me pretty obvious why people want to come to the Uk. The vast majority will have some grasp of the language. I've got a smattering of Spanish. If there were a nuclear war or something in europe I wouldn't be fleeing to Asia I'd be heading for South America fot the simple reason I could get by with the language.
We need to stop putting sticking plasters over it and start addressing the cause. Ask ourselves why these people are wanting to leave their country and make an expensive, hazardous journey to a safe country, and then wonder whether we (us, the West…let’s face it, the USA) have played any part in causing the problem in the first place. Are they fleeing war from a conflict we caused or provoked? Is there a civil war, whereby we are providing the arms? Are they facing poverty because we are suppressing their country financially? Are they facing poverty because we are taking their country’s natural resources for very little in return? The best outcome for all would be that these refugees do not need to become refugees in the first place. In some cases there is little we can do, in many there is plenty we can do, and in many it is because of plenty we have done.
The priority is people in small boats! Just read it in the paper. Forget about cost of living, mortgage, lying, sleaze, knighthoods for misogynists, s**t in rivers. It’s the “invasion” of people in small boats. Think on!!!
On the face of it you would think cancelling most Third World debt would be a step in the right direction since many countries have debt even many who have annual surpluses. Unfortunately many ,developing countries (not to mention ...ahem...some First World ones ) are rife with corruption and funds and assets are often siphoned off ending up in Presidents, Oligarchs, and Rulers offshore funds or funding and arming opposing sides in the many civil wars ravaging the Third World. The ordinary people who live in poverty would likely not see the benefits. It is the case that decades of US foreign policy have done damage but there is still a case that internal civil wars driven by ideologies, and religion result in money spent on arms, destroying rather than building. Nigeria is a case in point. Many refugees escaping poverty and starvation in a country rich in oil and minerals and it has been ongoing for decades. The West has a lot to answer for and arms deals are one of the worst aspects as are exploiting resources with unfair returns but that is only half the story unfortunately.
We have migrants from Nigeria, but they are usually rich folks, doctors, IT people, etc. They normally drive a Merc. I do a lot of DJing at their weddings & whilst the most of the population is downtrodden, the ones we let in are the skilled & rich ones. That is in no way a problem, but is separate from the victims of the wars we. or the USA, largely have commenced. Just look at the figures of refugees.... I think I'm largely agreeing with you.
I could teach you, but I'd have to charge. It's a power I use sparingly, reserved for when it's most needed.
