Trying to find out, how or if they need paying back. Only thing I can pick up on is an original story that was based on £200 to be paid back In 5 yearly instalments of £40.
As it's now £400 I can't find a payback installments or period. am i missing summat.
    Don't answer that Stephen.
    Edit
Only thing I can find is this. But I didn't think we didn't have to pay it back. ?

The government will give every household £400 off their electricity bill. This is called the Energy Bills Support Scheme. You don't need to do anything to get the money and you won't have to pay it back. You'll get the £400 in 6 instalments starting from October 2022.
Self explanatory I know but thought it can't be right.

    No payback.

It's a 400 quid grant for every household.

    It's yours to keep

Thanks Nez. Thought I must be dreaming as I've held my credit back £300+ for payback.
Next seasons pass paid for :) unless theres another big hike in my energy prices in April. I'll leave it where it is. :(

Originally it was a loan and pay back over so many years.

Then they scrapped it, upped it to 400 and said it's yours to keep.

If I remember correctly the £200 we received in April through poll tax discount was originally to be paid back, but Gov u turned.

It’s definitely not to be paid back. Energy prices are set to increase 20% in April for those on the standard rate.

    Thanks
I've just had my forecast direct debits required from april declared/estimated by my supplier for the next financial year. (Shell). But i don't know if that includes the anticipated rise.

It won’t as it’ll be based on current prices until the price rise is officially announced.

It doesn't matter what the price increase is, the gov subsidy is being reduced by £900 for the average user.

Is it not the case that the energy companies will be allowed to keep prices a little higher when they begin to fall (wholesale) in order to recoup what the government have 'lent'?

Wrong. It's yours to give to your energy supplier in order to enable them to make MASSIVE profits at the tax payers' expense.

Wrong. My energy supplier haven't got a penny of it. It's sat in my savings account. And it's staying there.

Although I do get your point
