He’s had bad knees for years. Such a shame for him as had he remained fully fit at Swansea and then fulham I can imagine having gone to a ‘bigger’ club and maybe playing for England; he came close as it was. 29 is no age to pack in but it must be the right decision if he’s struggling as much as he apparently is. He’s a long life to live after football and doesn’t need knackering up any more. Knee issues are not fun.
Good how they are doing something to acknowledge him against the game with us. Quite fitting, and hopefully our club can do something too
Nice touch as well. Commemorating his career on the day that we play them. Gives both sets of supporters chance to thank him for his service
A very high quality player for us and there was a period when he was with Swansea that he looked set for a long top level career. Shame it didn’t play out that way but glad he’s made the decision for him and his family.
Sad news that. Rare to have are goal scoring CBs. Look at how much we love Mads but he doesn't chip in with goals like Alfie did. Wish I was off to Wycombe now but already got plans. I am sure he will have plenty of clubs offering him coaching roles. I can see him becoming a manager at some point.
Abit harsh Fulham paid Swansea 17million for mawson and it looked like he would be a regular at top level as he was only young. Very unlucky with injurys.
Such a shame, great player. Now he's found the love for the game again, hope he works on his badges & has a successful coaching/management career if that's what he wants
No but he did "kick on" after he left us, at one point after his move to Fulham he was being linked with Spurs. I'd say that certainly was progression after leaving us. I think that was the part you were being challenged on, not that you were suggesting he was at fault.
Great, that means he can go back to playing Nick Harper again, on My family. It was never the same after he left, and yes I'm saying I think he looks like Kris Marshall.
Top bloke. Good player in his day. Hope he's invested wisely, as should be set up for life. Anything he does then is his choice. I wish him well.
Top man and top player. My son’s first Oakwell hero as they share a first name! Well, equal first. He loved Marley Watkins as well.
