We've sold one first team regular and signed 7 players (I think), if anything we've added more depth to the squad.
It’s a shame about Aitchinson, I thought he’d found a bit of form for us. I’m hoping for goods things from Russell. Probably the 1 signing with most expectations. Oli Shaw I hope can find his goalscoring boots again now under Duffs expertise. Don’t expect any of the keepers to play unless Brad gets injured. Thomas I think will be a decent replacement for Edwards. Cotter well he could be the next gem or next flop I’ve no idea which way he’s gunna go.
After a bit of an (uncharacteristically ) grumpy afternoon from me yesterday I'm giving the window an 8 out of 10 for 'Technical Merit' (provided Watters gets up to speed PDQ). I think we needed that extra defender to get up to '10'. As always, 'Artistic Impression' marks can only be given when I've actually seen the recruits play a bit!
As long as the Russell one was done in time that looks like a decent window. Only one first teamer moved out and several fringe players offloaded but at least 4 of those brought in should be fighting for regular starts so we have at least improved the squad depth and hopefully the quality as well Also it seems Luke Thomas may be back by the end of the month so we might be able to field a decent first 11 and subs bench Just a bit baffled as to why we need 3 keepers to replace Walton when we already have Searle
Obviously it depends on the impact Watters, Shaw and Russell have, but on the face of it, we've strengthened the matchday squad. Only concern is whether we have enough cover for any more injuries to centre halves.
We must be confident of it going through to announce it. We've certainly added depth in the forward line, but it is a worry that we don't have much depth at the back. Keeping Kitching, Thomas and Andersen fit is vital. Although there is Cundy and Williams who could fill in there too. I'm not too concerned over the keeper situation. The young lad we've signed from Tottenham will be for the 18s/21s, and I reckon thr lad from Luton is one we'll be looking at in training to see whether he's worth a deal in the summer as a long term replacement for Walton or even Collins. Searle is still inexperienced, and it could be that he goes out on loan to a National League side in the coming weeks.
Think if you look at it from the point of view of Collins clearly Duffs no1 ,Aitchinson hard worker but not a clinical finisher, Moon Duff doesn't fancy at all .so overall 2 or 3 not quite good enough for 2 or 3 with potential is the way I see it only time will tell.
Very good transfer window and credit to our board for all they have done... 1) Kept hold of all key players. 2) Got rid of a good number of fringe players. 3) Backed Duff to bring in a number of players to freshen things up.
Of course we have. We have not lost any key first team players. The only players we have lost from the main squad are Walton and Aitchison who were mainly bench players anyway. Walton was our number 2 keeper and Aitchison was mainly a sub who was often IMO played out of position as he is not an out and out striker, he is more of a number 10 attacking mid but we don't operate with one of those. We have added a new RWB to add competition/cover to Williams which we didn't have already. Added a new midfielder to add competition and cover there which was needed given injuries there currently. Replaced one loan CB with another due to the injury to Edwards. Added depth up top with Watters and Shaw who have actually got goals to there name at this level or a similar level. The squad is for sure in a better place now than it was at the start of the window.
