I reckon he has a much, much better chance of keeping them up than Appleton. No clue how that lad keeps getting jobs.
Fire fighting job. He's there to keep them up. Can't see him being there past the summer. Their fans seem to have the same opinion, and think it's a bit knee jerk by their board. I'm sure he'll do the job he's been given, but that's exactly why I didn't want him (or Warnock) here last season. Say he goes in the summer, they're back to square 1 again. All the problems that existed prior to him coming in, are still there. If we'd have appointed Duff last January, we might not have stayed up, but I reckon we'd be in a more comfortable position in league 1 now. That being said, Duff's done a phenomenal job up to present. My opinion like, but I don't get this 6 month fire fighting business.
One thing Mick is reputed to be good at is man management. (Keane was a nob btw) If you get the respect of players I reckon that's as important as the coaching side.
"VETERAN gaffer Mick ...." Screams the BBC headline. Veteran. Gaffer. Veteran. It's literally 2 minutes since I was watching him getting established in the heart of our defence. Surely. Old age, eh?
So Michael Applecrumble gets sacked, and the Lashers appoint a grey dinosaur on a short term 'keep us up' basis. Should be interesting seeing how it goes.
Nah … you’re only old when you can’t remember yesterdays meal but can vividly recall Macker’s clearances with boot or head ! Oops
My abiding memories are of him rampaging forward to join a Barnsley attack, receiving the ball at the edge of their box, then booting it back to Springett. Every match.
Short term thinking by them. In recent times they have gone for a different type of manager, so it's a noticeable change of tact.
Better being Championship square one rather than League One square one but I do get what you mean. If you change your manager at this point you’ve got to go with a Warnock type for me.
I agree, opens up prospects of other managers too, i.e those who don't want to join now incase they have a relegation on their CV/don't want a league one job, but would take the challenge on from fresh if they stay up in the championship
I saw him make his debut in the reserves with his brother Kevin and alongside Peter Burke. Kev McCarthy was the better footballer but Mick was the more purposeful, single-minded and aggressive. Don't know what happened to Peter Burke as he showed promise but faded from the scene.
