Hi, just thought I'd do a quick update on what's on for the Community. Aside from the resident sports clubs, the Shaw Lane Foundation is providing not for profit / affordable sessions to support communities in need. Tuesdays - Tea & Toast Drop in 9am - 11am - pay what you can afford, come in out of the cold. Wednesdays - Women's Walking football - 7-8pm Informal, suitable for beginners.£1 Thursdays - Work Skills Course - 10am-1pm. The next 10 weeks are targeting Women & Girls, after that it will move to an Older People's Volunteering group. Also looking at a re-run of the work skills/ employability for Disabled people. Free Thursdays - Drop in for isolated / older people. Refreshments, quizzes, board games, chat, bingo - £2 Thursdays - Healthy Bones / Falls prevention session - Postural stability for older people / those recovering from falls. £3 Fridays - Fit families targeting families on low income/ otherwise unable to afford. 2 hours of exercise and activity for the whole family, eating on a budget tips, and free healthy meal to cook at home. *referral only via local schools. PM for details. Free Fridays - Disability Football 1.30 -2.30pm £1 Coming soon - Sensory Garden installation - volunteers required with gardening / DIY skills. Also available - Community Library/ Book swap - free Barnsley Bereavement Service We're also doing affordable Bar Meals at £5 each in the Clubhouse Mon - Thursday. Finally, we have a link with Barnsley Premier Leisure for Weight management. Barnsley Residents can access 12 weeks free Gym membership. There is some criteria around certain conditions, and Body Mass i.e. you have a BMI 25kg/m2-40kg/m2 but if you are interested in losing weight support is there.
