Yeah. I'm not going to say they're all the same and try to be apologist for voting Tory at the last election or Brexit for that matter. However, in my lifetime at the level I find myself I honestly haven't noticed a key change from Labour to Conservative. Nothing has changed at all for me. Only the name of the party in charge. I've never earnt enough to be genuinely affected by the majority of policies. I don't earn enough to be hammered with tax. The only thing that hit's my pocket is travel. However, that isn't the fault of a political party. It's my own. I could work more locally. Prices naturally rise year on year. I think sometimes people just look for things to blame.
Of course they havent - they dont have the staff to man the regular hospitals, thats one of the main reasons we are in the current crisis. They never had the staff to man the Nightingdale's even during the early months of Covid when they were created as a publicity gimmick
I would refer you to the current reasons the staff are striking and also we would need to bring in foreign staff and thats not popular amongst many tories
You only have to look a privatisations Stephen. All an unmitigated disaster nearly all now owned by foreign companies who's priority is to satisfy the shareholders. And have us at their beck and call. French threatening to cut off power supplies for example. Tories moaning about investment needed. So brought in privatisation. When in fact the lack of investment has been catastrophic. I can vouch for that in the water industry with lots of money spaffed on fines (millions) . Due to inadequate assets poorly maintained. All under the guise of risk management. Penny wise pound foolish.
Vicious cycle mate. The rot has set in. It's not an attractive proposition at the mo. Farnham has hit the nail on the head. With foriegn workers having to jump through hoops for work permits .
Because nobody in their right mind would want to work in the NHS under a government that is actively trying to hobble it and curb their rights as workers. At least Brexit means we no longer have to worry about those dirty foreigners coming over here, tending to our sick and dying. We've taken back control of the right to an undignified death in a hospital corridor or car park. Rule ******* Brittania.
I was horrified when I watched Look North the other night and a guy in Scarborough had to spend the night in his car with acute appendicitis.
For starters, you could get access to a GP in a decent amount of time, instead of playing telephone roulette with local surgeries first thing in a morning. Ambulances used to turn up at a decent rate too - instead of owt up to 8 hours.
They do differ and vastly, but not in a sexy way that directly affects the person in the street like you might think. Labour governments (despite what Tories say about them being economically bad, the data proves otherwise) pay off more of the National Debt than Tory govs. They tend to take more taxes but spend them wisely, Tory govs tend to sell off stuff and give themselves tax cuts Labour invest more into public infrastructure works. They build more and make more of the stuff that we the public use - hospitals, equipment in hospitals, road mending, parks, technology investments. All the stuff that makes out lives easier, better and healthier.
That dull repetitive sound you might hear is me banging my head on the nearest wall with all the talk of tax paying funding spending and reducing the National Debt. All government spending is through borrowing. Taxation controls inflation and influences consumer spending - think sugar tax or Vehicle Duty for EVs compared to ICEs. Too much money in the economy and inflation increases too much. A government doesn't need to wait until we've paid our taxes to build a hospital or buy a bunch of bombs. The National Debt is the sum of money that the government owes to private individuals and bond holders. The problem isn't the size of the national debt (if it was, its tripled under the Tories). The problem is that the debt is concentrated in a relatively small number of hands. If the debt was £3tn and we had 60m people with £50k each it isn't a problem. But we've got 59.99 million people with next to nothing and 100 people with £billions each (like now) and it is starting to hurt. Reduce the National Debt to £0 and nobody has any money for anything.
It wouldn’t. When they say bed shortage they don’t mean the physical beds they could always nip down to IKEA for those. It’s the staff to look after the patients in those beds. Nightingale Hospitals couldn’t be used in the pandemic as the only people who could have worked on them were already working in existing hospitals. Since then staffing has got much worse. The only solution to that is to incentivise people to stay through more competitive wages.
I dont know why people keep blaming the Tories when they are all the same oh hang on maybe Labour would be better
in simpler terms we are a fiat economy that prints its own money. We can fund anything we choose to fund. All choices are political ones not economic ones. The worst thing that Thatcher ever did was to popularise the idea that a nations economy is like a household one. It’s in no way the same if I get a bit skint I can’t pop to the kitchen and print more money. That the tories and Labour push this lie is pretty disgusting really
