It looks though you want an argument. They let him on the field they are are there to stop people encroaching h was one 10 year old kid for gods sake my gran could have stopped him. I t was even maybe his first game and got got over excited at Barnsley scoring a winner so late after being mistreated fo 90 minutes from a plonker of a referee. If yo want to be such a do gooder go and join the BBC and tick a few more boxes
If it was his first match maybe whoever had taken him to it should have kept a closer eye on him and made sure he behaved himself and informed him what is and is not allowed within the ground. I'm not looking for an argument I just pointed out that when you break rules there are often consequences so if you don't want to suffer the consequences don't break the rules and make sure those under your control don't either. As for Stewards being in the wrong then those alleging wrong doing should be approaching the club to make statements detailing the wrong doing and it's perpetrators. That's the only way the stewarding will improve. Picking a fight with somebody trying to do there job solves nothing.
It was always going to escalate this I’m afraid. If his dad was there then it beggars belief why he let him run onto the pitch (unless the lad was sat with kids his own age and got egged on). Secondly why the dad didn’t give the lad an ear bashing as we all get told via various social channels what punishment running onto the pitch incurs. Personally, I don’t think the stewards handled it well either and the correct manner given the situation would have been to let the lad go back to his dad and hopefully gather their names or use cctv evidence after the game to then post a ban thru their letter box explaining the reasons why it was given.
Also i am now led to believe the lad was part of the flag bearers. So maybe parents weren't there . I don't know
I've no idea about what happened re the stewards in this instance. In my experience they fall into three categories. The ones who want to have a go at doing a decent job, ones who are just after a bit of extra cash and feel their responsibility should end at showing people to their seats and those who like the idea of being able to throw their weight around a bit. Unfortunately we and most other clubs can't afford stewards of the sort of standard we'd all like. Crikey, we as a country can't even organise a police force that acts across the board with professionalism and integrity. So, we're stuck with the very imperfect stewarding at Oakwell and elsewhere. There is a way to get round these problems though. And that's if the fans in the ground f***ing behaved themselves and acted like fully developed human beings thereby removing the need for stewards to get involved.
Back in the day a copper would have given him a clout round the ear and that would have been the end of it
The problem is with BFC stewards is they are pointless. I look up & down the Ponty end at each Steward & not one of them looks like they give a toss or could even handle someone running onto the pitch. Just look at them when the “All stewards go to phase 5” is announced, not one looks like they know what they’re doing. It’s just the one of many things surrounding the matchday experience at Oakwell that spells out tinpot. We can’t even get sufficient ball boys ffs & it’s been like that since as long as I can remember.
Iam 66 and still ' scared' of coppers, if a police car is behind me i think am i doing owt wrong lol.
The problem is with pissed up, coked up, or generally thick as two short planks, football fans who think they can do anything they want. It really is as simple as that.
That's not as bad as when one is alongside you at a red light and you spend the next 30 seconds trying to look normal
