Not sure how Mags wasn't sent off https://www.fleetwoodtownfc.com/news/2022/december/brown-post-barnsley-a/ Probably why he went to the ref for a fairly long chat on the pitch at full time.
Having watched the penalty several times. The decision looks soft. (Looked a stonewall one at the game for me) Mads sticks his arm out as he has a tendency to do a lot, and the lad made the most of it. But as for sending off, not in a million yrs. The ball was running away from the goal.
It looked like Mags was trying to let the ball run out of play and by shielding it. Hence why he was looking to see where their player was. Should have just put it in row Z. Otherwise Mags had his usual solid game.
Penalty all day for me, but never red in a million years. If that’s a red, Scott brown should have been sent off every game he ever played.
Hadn't he already been booked? Think Brown would've been suggesting a second yellow rather than a straight red. It's a definite pen sadly. Andersen was more bothered about the player than the ball. If he'd just followed the line of the ball, he'd have had a choice of trying to shield it out, or clearing it. Instead, he let their player get goal side of him.
I think a pen was the correct decision, But I also know that a defender shielding a ball rarely results in a penalty even if the forward goes crashing to the ground. Some refs would have given the foul to Mads and I wouldn’t expect it given in our favour though would take it if it was. What’s Brown asking for? a straight red for denying an goal scoring opportunity. For a start that no longer applies if a pen is awarded and in any case it clearly wasn’t as he would have been running away from goal at the goal line. Or is he asking or a second yellow for a clumsy attempt to shield the ball which would have been an incredible decision unless you give a yellow for every foul. He is talking ********.
Thought it looked harsh last night but on second viewing it’s a penalty. No idea why Mads does what he does. Muskwe isn’t in on goal he’s running towards the corner flag so plenty of time to jockey him and block any shot or cross.
It applies if no attempt is made to play the ball which would have been the case with mads. I think what saved him was, as you say the ball was going away from goal.
