Lineker is incorrect, but the rest are correct.

There's about 30 players who have played for England whilst playing abroad, but only the 8 mentioned above who have represented England at the World Cup whilst playing abroad. The likes of Lineker and Gascoigne got moves after Italia 90. Trevor Francis was the only other one I wasn't 100% sure about, as he appears to have left one foreign club shortly before a World Cup.

I couldn't find the actual answers (only that Bellingham is the 8th to do so) but I compiled the list based on an article I found about England players playing abroad, and it matches Mr C's answers, so I assume it's correct.

I’ve deliberately not read any posts but the first so I can’t cheat. For my 8 I’ll go -

Bellingham, Beckham & Hargreaves are definitely 3.

Then I think Waddle & Platt are two others.

Then I’m struggling. I’ll go Gascoigne, Butcher & Lineker although they’re all before my time.

I don’t think McManaman is one as he was at Liverpool in the 97/98 season & he didn’t go to the 2002 World Cup.

Platt was at Aston Villa for Italia 90.

I’ve never even heard of Hitchens or Woodcock & I’ve only heard of Hately a couple of times so I don’t feel annoyed at not guessing them.

Im just glad there wasn’t any really obvious ones from the last 20 years

I was convinced he was one and then re read the question and realised he wasn’t as he wasn’t at World Cup only a qualifier.

YES!! Get in! Hitchens played in '62 & was famously dropped because Alf Ramsay wouldn't pick an overseas player, even though he was top scorer in Serie A for Inter.
Somebody else rang a bell with Tony Woodcock, Hately & Wilkins were at AC Milan, Waddle at Marseille, Hargreaves in Germany, somewhere, Beckham & Bellingham were obvious.
I never win anything. What do I win? :)

Yeah that's the article I used to work out the answers. I reckon there's close to 30 now. Trippier played for England whilst at Atletico Madrid, Fikayo Tomori has played for England since moving to AC Milan, Tammy Abraham has whilst at Roma, and that's just off the top of my head.

Yeah me neither. Gerry Hitchens played at the 1962 World Cup whilst playing for Inter Milan. He was the first English player to represent England at the World Cup whist contracted to a foreign team. Then 20 years later, Tony Woodcock was still contracted to FC Köln when playing for England at the 1982 World Cup, but went to Arsenal shortly after the tournament.
